I've bought a midi skirt-now what?

I've bought a black midi skirt and in a moment of madness a pair of white ankle boots too. But no idea of what top. I've completely lost my waist, so tucked in looks rubbish I think.
Chunky knit? But I wanted it for the pub, will I look a loon? Any suggestions?

Can we see them?
Gotta be a top of colour or ul look too formal

GhostCurry · 07/11/2018 16:19

Chucky knit could work but it would need to be short - waist length-ish.

SuperstarDJ · 07/11/2018 16:24

I think a relatively plain semi-fitted top would work best for the pub. Like this photo. What of midi skirt is it though - pencil, full or pleated?

Or a fine knit , tucked in
Love this midi skirt and boot look. I also wear with tucked in denim shirt

lurkingfromhome · 07/11/2018 16:40

I love a chunky knit and midi skirt. I'm trying to rock that look at the moment but the weather just isn't cold enough yet! I really like that look with dressy bottom half and casual top half. But we do need to see a pic of the skirt to know what will work best.

Justcallmelu · 07/11/2018 16:43

You need black stockings with a seam going up the back, why white boots?, stilettos maybe to lengthen your legs?

SuperstarDJ · 07/11/2018 17:00

Justcal - OP asked for advice on what top to wear, advice re stockings and stilettos. Are you a man by any chance?

EleanorLavish · 07/11/2018 17:02

Sorry, was on school run.
White ankle boots seem to be everywhere, very ‘in’ according to my fashion forward pal.
Have ordered two skirts, this one and this green one.

Boots are like these but with block heel.

@SuperstarDJ I love that outfit!

EleanorLavish · 07/11/2018 17:08

I like the idea of the short waisted knit...usually hide my tum as it’s a disaster zone, and the pleats can accentuate it, IYKWIM?
I am over tottering around in stilletoes, I’m all about stylish comfort these daysGrin. I hope!

Sorry, should have mentioned am 32H so quite busty, makes it even harder sob!

In that case, I’d forget about a chunky knit and just for a crew neck or v neck fine knit top. Size up if you want a bit of slouch. M&S do merino wool or non-wool ones in stacks of different colours. Paired with a necklace and a biker jacket you’re good to go to the pub :)

CryptoFascist · 07/11/2018 17:20

I like them with a jumper, either baggy or fitted. Also I wear mine with a logo Tee shirt and trainers if I'm feeling devil-may-care.

CryptoFascist · 07/11/2018 17:21

Just wanted to say the thread title really made me laugh, I think I must be overtired.

CountFosco · 07/11/2018 17:23

Love the white boots, trying to resist buying these at the moment!

Also love the skirts, lots of places do sparkly knits at this time of year that might look good. I love a midi plus slouchy jumper, it's what I'm wearing right now in fact!

lurkingfromhome · 07/11/2018 17:24

Yes, definitely a slightly slouchy fine knit if you're a bit big up top. Uniqlo excellent for plain merino knits, but with a midi I do like them a bit slouchy.

I love that black skirt. It will be brilliant with white ankle boots.

CountFosco · 07/11/2018 17:25

Uniqlo merino is good as well, they do a lovely boatneck.

Cherries101 · 07/11/2018 17:25

I thought midis were out of fashion now. It’s all about knee length pencil skirts now.

EleanorLavish · 07/11/2018 17:39

I was always a real Marilyn Monroe type, tiny waist, long slim legs, boobs and arse, but those days are long gone! And with them my pencil skirts and dresses I’m afraid. I have to learn to work with what I have now. Stomach which was always flat is now a big saggy mess. I have a very obvious ‘roll’ as my 3 kids were all massive so I had huge bump. And my waist has completely disappeared, but coming back. Still have good legs thank god!Wink
Although midi skirt and boots are so much comfier than pencil skirt and stilletoes, so every cloud....

EleanorLavish · 07/11/2018 17:45

CountFosco love those boots too, and that website. Thanks.
Also love the M&S jumpers, thanks. Feeling more confident.
What is Uniqlo sizing like? True to size or skimpy? I’m 5’8” so a bit taller, hate skimpy tops.

OP posts:
EleanorLavish · 07/11/2018 18:24

Looking at this and this?

OP posts:
SuperstarDJ · 07/11/2018 19:17

I like both those choices OP but the leopard print one looks quite thick so might be a bit hot for pub. Would be good with the black skirt for day time though.

What about

this

Or

this

Re your other query, I don’t find Uniqlo that roomy so best to size up in some tops unless they are already an over sized fit. The quality is always generally v good though.

BookishOwl · 07/11/2018 19:50

I love those 2 skirts OP!

I've been tempted by the pleated skirts but am now 45 and bigger round the waist than I used to be so I've never dared. This thread has been very helpful so far
