Smart, warm, waterproof, hooded coat that's not enormous

Help! I finally broke down and ordered a Seasalt Janelle II and I look like a tiny child in an adult's coat. I am 5 foot 5 and normally an 8-10 in clothes but this swamps me completely and looks absolutely terrible. It is going back. I don't know why I bothered with Seasalt because I had a bad experience with a Seafolly that sounded like a packet of crisps every time I moved and made me look like a sack of birdseed.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Uniqlo's Blocktech in xs seems to fit, but is not warm. I have a Jigsaw padded coat that is warm and hooded but not waterproof. I don't want anything that makes me look like I'm off trekking. Any ideas?

Oh Bipbop that's awful. Miselling of goods.
I hope you return it. I'll test mine out. Lots of wet benches here in Dublin today as we've had torrential rain. Clearing now though thank goodness.

Just to add to he thread that I've just bought a Didriksons Nadine, totally waterproof, windproof and warm. They are on offer in Blacks with an additional 20% off for Black Friday.

I have several Barbour coats (live not too far from the factory shop) and I find the totally waterproof non waxed ones aren't particularly warm, and the warm down ones leak like sieves!

HesARealDouche · 12/11/2018 17:30

@Igottastartthinkingbee did you return your Tog24? Was it pretty substantial thickness wise? I might order one.

My Protected Species winter parka arrived today and I very much wanted to love it but it's a bit meh. The fabric is lovely and soft and light, but the shape is not flattering - if I pull in the waist with the adjusters it makes me look matronly, and if I leave it uninched it just looks kind of baggy. The quality of the fabric has made me more interested in their raincoats which seem more elegantly shaped, but the parka is not lighting my fire. Back to the drawing board.

Hesarealdouche I kept it in the end. It’s very warm and waterproof so far. Hood is a teeny bit big but otherwise it’s a nice winter coat.

Bip did you send your Joules Stormont back? I hope you find a coat soon.

musicmum75 · 12/11/2018 21:58

You could try having a look at Esprit. I have a couple of down coats from there. They are very warm and waterproof and don't swamp me (I am very short).

HesARealDouche · 12/11/2018 22:11

@Igottastartthinkingbee I love a big hood to be fair; I'm going to order one!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 12/11/2018 22:21

I wore it the other day Hes and I was too warm if anything. Need the cold weather!

Snog · 13/11/2018 00:10

Sea salt plant hunter?

BipBippadotta · 13/11/2018 09:11

@Igottastartthinkingbee I'm keeping the Stormont as it's a nice length and keeps my legs and bum warm. Not quite as smart as I would like for work but a more flattering fit than anything else I have tried, and slim, and waterproof enough provided I don't sit in puddles! Still, I am glad I tried on the more expensive ones so I am not left imagining that the perfect coat is beckoning to me from beyond the limits of my budget.

My dsis has the Lands End Commuter coat. It's really warm and waterproof but is rather big and bulky.
The Lands End Stadium Squall looks neater.

blodynmawr · 13/11/2018 20:25

Lands End stadium squall is the best winter coat I've ever had. It is properly waterproof and warm. Wore it for an hour's walk last weekend, most of which was through a torrential downpour. I was bone dry.
Agree with comments that nothing the High St can offer is likely to be able to cut it technically.
HTH Smile

My Tog 24 arrived, I'm THRILLED with it! Its much thicker than any of the others I've tried but slim fitting so doesn't look huge. I also got an extra 10% off with an online code so it was only £63 with free postage. Link if anyone is still looking www.tog24.com/farley-womens-milatex-jacket-navy.html

Igottastartthinkingbee · 16/11/2018 13:31

Ooh you did well their Hes I paid £80 for mine! Glad you like it.

beanaseireann · 16/11/2018 18:35

Lands End 50% off at the moment for Stadium Squall

NuzzleandScratch · 16/11/2018 22:50

I bought that first Regatta one you linked to today! (hadn't read this thread!). It's not the sort of brand I would normally look at, but like another poster mentioned, it was 50% off in a garden centre! Haven't worn it yet, but seems like it'll be warm, and properly waterproof. I really like the furry bits too! The colour is more of a plum colour than appears online.
