Kipling bags

Are they value for money? They seem very expensive, but is that the name or the quality?

They do appear expensive but I’ve had one for work and it’s been amazing. It’s been loaded to the gunnels and it’s so strong and durable. The other bonus is that they are very light but hard wearing. Maybe try buying from the shopping channel (QVC) where you can try it for 30 days and you return it if you’re not keen.

Nacreous · 04/11/2018 20:07

I've had two Kipling bags. One is 15 years old and still looks the same as when it was bought. The other looks a tiny bit worn but I used it for my books throughout university; it took several spills from my bicycle and lived on the floors of labs and lecture theatres as well as on the ground outside when I was getting my bike out. They are expensive but I've never regretted one.

MaruMaru · 04/11/2018 20:12

I've got a metallic one. I've used it every single day for at least 2 years and it looks as good as new. It's not scuffed or scratched or ripped and the zips all work perfectly.
Love mine- all the pockets and sections mean you never lose anything. It also has an adjustable strap so can go over the shoulder or cross body. So much choice in size, style and colours.
V pleased with mine- tho I don't like the little monkey... straight in the bin.

Kochicoo · 04/11/2018 20:13

I always keep an eye out on Amazon and have got 2 Kipling bargains that way. One was during their Black Friday promotional period and the other just seemed to be random. I got a large travel tote (perfect for hand luggage) for £26 and the next week it was back up to £86! They're so strong and light and as pps have said, stay looking good for ages.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/11/2018 20:16

I love them, I don't use leather personally.

I have a large black, medium brown, brown patterned very large and small grey. That covers all eventualities Grin

The pockets and zipped compartments , the key tag , my very large one has a mesh pocket , brilliant for the carrier bags.

I do stick them in the washing machine , in a net bag (take the handle and the monkey off)

Some of the QVC viewers collect a millionty of the blighters .but not me.

I do have a zipped pouch for coupons and a zipped coin purse plus a card holder .I had a Brownie purse but I switched to an M&S purse with RFID

I've never seen any good ones in TKMaxx though .

I reckon you'd get bored with it before you wore it out .

When my DS was about 5yo he came back with my Dad from a shopping trip , really pleased with himself that he found me a Monkey in a charity shop (he's nearly 19yo now and I still have that Monkey Grin )

SillySallySingsSongs · 04/11/2018 20:21

I have had mine for about 8 years. I love it.

Deathraystare · 09/11/2018 11:07

I love them, especially if they have the fluffy monkeys! I have more bags than I realised!

spiderlight · 09/11/2018 12:32

I've got several and have used them to death for years without any sign of wear and tear. They can be chucked in the washing machine and come out like new. Most of mine have been eBay bargains and I love them - soooo many pocketses!

ilovecherries · 09/11/2018 12:39

I sold a number of the fluffy monkeys for between 5-20 each on eBay! I was going to throw them out, friend insisted they would sell. I made nearly £100 on old monkeys. A couple even had little bidding wars on them. They aren’t the most stylish bags, but the quality is superb and they are really practical.

SmallDalek · 09/11/2018 12:49

I got one on amazon to take on holiday but love it so
Much I’ve used it constantly at home. It’s small and neat but like a tardis it holds so much. It’s really strong too. I’m on train at moment and have a big purse, bottle of water, make up, tablets, tissues, wipes, phone, keys. You’d never think it could hold so much looking at it.

SmallDalek · 09/11/2018 12:51

It’s this one

SmallDalek · 09/11/2018 12:55

I can’t believe that about selling the monkeys 😳. I gave mine to little DGD. Shall definitely be saving any more I might get tho now I know they’re a thing.

MinesaPinot · 09/11/2018 13:25

I've got several Kipling bags in varying sizes and colours. I also use the Brownie purse every day. They are hardworking and durable and really good value I think. Even the smallest bags seem to hold a huge amount.

The last one I bought was the large Art Tote in metallic pewter earlier this year. It held everything I needed for a 2 day hand luggage only break, and has also served DH and me as an overnight bag. I also took it as my flight bag when we went to Greece in August as it's got a zipped pocket which you can undo top and bottom, and then slide the sleeve over the suitcase handle IYSWIM.

Their zipped pouches are also great for organisation - I've got the small Creativity purse which holds my iPod and headphones, and also one of the Electronico pouches which I use for the passports and tickets, and then as a clutch at my destination.

All my bags have, variously, been slung under my seat at the footie, thrown in the car, shoved in overhead lockers and used for work and shopping. After a quick wash in the machine they look as good as new.

You might guess I'm a fan. Take off the monkeys though.......

JellySlice · 09/11/2018 13:48

Sounds good!

(And I like that gray crossbody bag.)

Black Friday, maybe?

SmallDalek · 09/11/2018 14:02

Jelly I can really recommend it. 4 zipped sections and a keyring on a fixed cord in one. Compartment for phone.

Plumpciousness · 09/11/2018 14:14

Don't pay full price unless it's a particularly unusual style or pattern that you don't want to risk missing. For most of their styles they bring out different colours and patterns each season, so either wait for the sale or look at online retailers (eg Amazon) who sell previous years' colours for less than this year's colours.

If you look on Amazon you'll see the same style of bag but in different colourways. Click on each colour and you'll see that the price varies.

MinesaPinot · 09/11/2018 14:15

Jelly Their own website is a good source as well. I've just had a look and they've got a mid-season sale at the moment (look at the Outlet tab on the site). They also do free delivery and returns and you can sign up for offers etc.

JellySlice · 09/11/2018 17:31

Are the monkeys always the same size?

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/11/2018 18:31

Nooo there are many monkey varieties Grin

There are regular, teeny, metal(flat) perspex(flat) and some huge fuzzy ones .

If you want to see Kipling bags in their millions , look at the QVC videos and the lovely Marie-Francois who is the brand ambassador . Bypass any that have some of the more irritating QVC Presenters .......

SenecaFalls · 09/11/2018 18:36

I have one that converts to a belt bag that I use exclusively for walking my dog and taking her to the dog park. It has several different pouches with very sturdy zippers. It is perfect for the purpose and seems nearly indestructible.

RetiredNotExpired · 09/11/2018 21:57

I would definitely say they're value for money! I am particularly found of 'Alvar' because it weighs next to nothing, packs completely flat but can't half hold a ton of stuff when needed. Oh, and the strap is a generous length cross-body (which suits my, err, generous body).

I only replaced the first one I bought because my dipshit DH managed to squirt rather a lot of superglue on it, but I'd had it about 5 years by then and dog knows how many times it'd been in the washing machine.

I have rather too many lovely leather bags but since I've retired and no longer worry about giving off that professional vibe, my Radley dogs get lonely and Mr Kipling keeps me company everywhere :)

Starfish83 · 10/11/2018 02:29

Following. 😊

adagio · 10/11/2018 04:36

I love my Kipling - super light, surprisingly roomy, loads of pockets. I have the mimosa in denim, and love it (use for work and weekends - I’m not really a bag swapper so realistically I need a bag that covers both as I never seem to get round to moving everything around just to go with different outfits in a daily basis. ).

12stars · 10/11/2018 04:44

I have lots and I love them. I started buying them when I lived in Belgium 20 years ago and have had several handbags in different colours, a couple of purses, a multi pocketed pencil case, a large rucksack and a couple of large bags. They all still look really new except the two purses which did wear out. They're like magic, so durable and roomy. Just avoid some of the hideous patterned ones that look like someone threw up on them.
