Warm smart jumpers for work

I work in an office environment and the heating is never sufficient so I need to wear warm jumpers over a smart long sleeved t-shirt (incase by a miracle in the afternoon it warms up and I can remove the jumper) or just a good single layer jumper and a vest top underneath. But the majority of smart jumpers are too thin and I end up with a cardigan over the top which doesn't look great.

I'm a size 12 with average bust area and a c-section tummy bulge if that helps!

I can't afford LK Bennett or Mint Velvet except in the sale.

I have bought lovely jumpers from ebay ( jigsaw white stuff plus the makes you say) for around four-five pounds. Get yourself a De fuzz comb to clear any bobbles ( this is really easy).

I have this in forest green and burgundy for work plus leopard print for the weekend. Great for layering and currently on offer!

Marmelised · 03/11/2018 09:15

Phase 8 has some batwing jumpers which are smart and warm.

JohnCRaven · 03/11/2018 09:15

That's fab and in my size but I already have a burgundy one!

H&M have got some nice knits online at the mo.

JeSuisPrest · 03/11/2018 09:23

Could you wear a smart thin jumper if you put a thermal layer underneath, rather than a cotton vest? Something in merino, or even like this www.blacks.co.uk/womens/207606-alpine-women-s-thermal-underwear-set-black.html might give you that extra few degrees you need.

I picked up a lovely pale pink thin knit jumper from H & M this week for work only £8.99.

JohnCRaven · 03/11/2018 09:25

H&M I can afford.

Lots of colours here - I tend to wear mine with cigarette trousers.

TKMaxx have merino wool from £7.99 up to £24.99

Heratnumber7 · 03/11/2018 09:59

One thing M&S is good for is a nice round or v neck lambs wool jumper. They sell them in loads of colours.

eurochick · 03/11/2018 10:13

The uniqlo merino stuff fits the bill.

TheFlis12345 · 03/11/2018 11:25

I was going to suggest the Uniqlo merino as well. It looks very fine and smart but is surprisingly warm. If it's really cold I wear a thermal long sleeved vest underneath instead of a t shirt.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/11/2018 12:06

Uniqlo merino is gorgeous , very fine knit , easy to layer
I bought a 100% wool jumper (£25) from ther but not worn it yet .

H&M are nice if long enough but when I was searching , a lot of theirs a 'boxy'

They have some in M&S that feel so soft but they're a weird blocky colour almost like you've tacked together odd bits of jumper (with rubbish seams_

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/11/2018 12:08

Uniqlo, good quality, not expensive, lots of colour and fit choices. Definitely what you want.

CottonSock · 03/11/2018 12:10

M&s have tons of colours and styles. Not washed mine yet though

ThankYouDebbie · 07/11/2018 08:04

I wear the Gap round neck jumpers with a thick thermal underneath and a naice collarbone-sitting necklace to smarten it up.

mammmamia · 07/11/2018 08:20

I recommend banana republic silk / cashmere blend ones - often on sale or get a discount code.
Also Monsoon.

graysor · 07/11/2018 14:36

I second (third / fourth?!) ultra fine merino from uniqlo. Super soft and fine, smart, range of colours and cuts, lovely and warm and machine washable!

I wear smart thin wool jumpers - round neck or polo neck from Uniqlo or Gap with a thermal underneath and then smart skirts or trousers. Or I wear a v thin thermal from uniqlo under a long sleeved top.

val4 · 07/11/2018 15:42

Wallis have great knitwear, especially dressy ones......and 25% off today!

CountFosco · 07/11/2018 15:46

Another vote for Uniqlo merino here, love their boatneck jumpers for work.

JohnCRaven · 08/11/2018 21:28

I'm allergic to wool (get REALLY itchy, especially round my neck). Will merino wool be the same or is that a silly question? Smile

Another vote for uniqlo merino. When I got my first I thought it was going to be far too delicate and snag but I’ve worn and washed a good few times now and all okay. Their cashmere is nice too.

I might give the H&M and warehouse a try for a slightly different shape otherwise I’d end up with a rainbow of the uniqlo ones!

weebarra · 08/11/2018 22:34

Uniqlo is great.

CottonSock · 10/11/2018 12:53

Merino is itchy as hell. I tried something on in Hobbs and literally had to rip it off instantly. The m&s ones are fake cashmere and I have been fine.
