Beautiful wool coats?

Lettherebelight · 02/11/2018 16:57

Have any of you seen any beautiful wool coats?
I need a new one and I'm not in a hurry but struggling to find things to even shortlist. Tried all the shops in our (small) city and there was very little choice. Nicest was probably Pure but they only had one and it was very pale. Others were mostly polyester when I checked the label.
I'm thinking either a colour (yellow, dark green, orange) or classic herringbone (like this but half the price). But mostly I want something that will cheer me up when I put it on.

Brora will have a sale soon...never pay more than half price
Only other option is Max Mara but I think they are dearer...they are lovely though

MoltonSilver · 02/11/2018 17:08

Anything here?

Tortadellanonna · 02/11/2018 17:11

Would you consider vintage?

Blondielongie · 02/11/2018 17:13

What's your budget? :)

PickAChew · 02/11/2018 17:15

I've been lusting after this one, but wouldn't wear it enough to justify the outlay. Definitely not pale.

Watching with interest - I have been looking for ages but can't find anything I want

Lettherebelight · 02/11/2018 17:21

I was expecting Jaegwr to have lots that would appeal but I think my problem is I have realised black makes me look too pale and tired.
There are some amazing ones on the Maxmara site (though the styling with fluffy slippers makes me laugh). I'd relax my colour rules for this if someone could lend me a few thousand Grin

What size do you take?

Lettherebelight · 02/11/2018 17:23

Yes, definitely consider vintage. That was my first thought for a Harris tweed style but I gave up a bit too quickly after looking in a few shops.
I was hoping around £200 budgetwise.

I love that Seasalt one in the link in teal

Blondielongie · 02/11/2018 17:49

I've mentioned [[https://www.johnlewis.com/kin-check-angled-seam-cocoon-coat-grey/p3761534]] in another thread. It's so lovely. Lots of compliments. The website has the wool content wrong though. The label says more. It is a mix though.

Blondielongie · 02/11/2018 17:50

Eugh. I can't do links...

Are you anywhere near a market town with an old school country clothing store, or do you fancy a day out to one? At this time of year they often have tweed coats and jackets. Some of them are a bit frou frou for my taste but, if you can find a plain one, they're beautifully tailored, normally made in the UK, typical price £200-300. They don't normally have websites so you have to go in person and rummage.

Lettherebelight · 02/11/2018 18:55

That John Lewis one is lovely. Is it cut oversized?
That's a great idea Floisme, there is a shop like that near here but I've assumed it was men's tweed only. Maybe I'll venture in to check!

Sometimes the women's tweed is hidden at the back! The men's stuff is lovely if you can find a tailor who'll alter it but that adds to the expense.

Blondielongie · 02/11/2018 20:45

It is oversized. It comes down between my. Knee and ankle and I am 5'6. I bought it because it looks just like a toast one I love from a few years ago for a lot less :)

JaceLancs · 02/11/2018 21:25

Jaeger from an outlet shop
I just bought a beautiful wool Benetton coat from tkmaxx for £34.99

Lettherebelight · 02/11/2018 21:35

We have a tkmaxx but I've never found nice clothes. Are there certain days that are better because of deliveries or is it just luck?

Boden used to do lovely coats with some wool.

friendlyflicka · 03/11/2018 02:53

I have a huge coat collection from second hand Max Mara/Prada/Gucci wool coats. I would look on Ebay/Vestaire and get something lovely

Oldraver · 03/11/2018 10:27

I have fallen for this Ted Baker coat. It looks and feels fab on.

There was a 25% off last week and I am hoping a reduction later on

applesandpears33 · 03/11/2018 10:47

I love tweed. What about this www.ewm.co.uk/herringbone-tweed-coat-2089202.html?___store=default

or this www.houseofbruar.com/long-tailored-coat-ts30085midbrownhb/

I saw the first one yesterday and it looked gorgeous but I have lots of coats and cannot justify buying another one. Both coats come in a variety of colours.

notmybag · 03/11/2018 10:50

There were some nice ones from good brands on brandalley
I like Hobbs and Karen Millen for coats
