Pre update primark sizing

Hi everyone,

Can people recall what primary sizing was like prior to the sizing shake up they did? I'm trying to decipher if their size M (12-14) runs large or small. Its for pjs so fit doesn't need to be perfect but it's the only size the seller has left. Cheers!!

Actually - it's post update sizing - sorry - as the item is labelled M which apparently is the new thing. So I guess I'm asking if you find the new sizing to come up large or small.

I'm a size 10 and just bought 2 xs jumpers which are a perfect fit.

Nightmanagerfan · 30/10/2018 23:00

New sizing is massive I’m- bought some size m knickers and they are huge - I was expecting a 12 but they are more like a 16

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/10/2018 23:02

I find they run large. I'm a 14 top / 12 bottoms , I'd go Medium. ( I don;t buy their trousers at all, they don;t fit me)
I had a stripey top which had a breast pocket..it was practically under my armpit.

And a chenille jumper , lovely colour (grey) good length , not boxy , bargain £15

Washed it , wore it , washed it again (in a net bag) It was all pulled all over like someone had hoiked at it with crochet hooks.

I am officially OVER their jumpers .

Bought some xl leggings to wear as lounge wear so wanted larger and comfy and they're about 8 sizes too big for my size 16 bottom half

luckycat007 · 31/10/2018 00:12

Bloody hell! Ok I don't think I'll bother getting the M if the sizing is as bad as that. I'm glad one person had a positive experience but overall it seems the new sizing stuff isn't too reliable 🤪😬

I'm a 12 and would wear a S in their jumpers in new sizing. I have some PJs too which I think are M and are very big, but I like my PJs quite baggy.

thesockgap · 31/10/2018 08:38

The new sizes are huge! I am a 10-12 but bigger up top so I always buy size 12 tops. Last year I bought a few of their stretchy long sleeve t-shirts in a 12 and they were perfect - fitted really closely which is how I like them. I came to buy the same this year and discovered the new sizes. I thought that a S - ie 8-10 - would be too tight so I bought a few M (12-14) stupidly without trying them on. They are absolutely massive ☹️ really loose and the arms way too baggy. I'm going to have to take them back and swap them.

Check the labels very carefully because our local primark has simply added ‘new’ labels onto the existing stock. So some XS (new label 6-8) has an original size 6 and some have and original 8 as well as the new label. This will phase out over time, but for now is quite handy, especially if you’re an 8-10 and in theory could end up with anything from a 6-12.

pouraglasshalffull · 31/10/2018 10:29

Has this change been recent? I bought some jeans from there a few months ago and found all their clothes were miles too small

HildaZelda · 31/10/2018 10:34

I HATE their stupid new sizing! I used to be a size 6/8 in Primark (and in most places) That used to be a small, then they introduced xs, so then I was xs, NOW I'm a bloody 2xs . Stores seem to get about 2 or 3 size 2xs in an item. This is a size 2-4. There is no way in hell I'm a size 2.
Most of my jeans are from River Island, size 8. I had to try on a pair in size 4 the other day in Primark because not only was the 8 huge, the 6 was massive as well.

hammeringinmyhead · 31/10/2018 10:49

I bought some M pyjamas and an M nightie in medium and they fit me as a 12 with a 38 week baby bump!

IsadoraQuagmire · 31/10/2018 14:12

It's ridiculous, I'm an 8, but sometimes used to be a 10 in Primark as some of their clothes came up smaller (though this seemed to change some time ago with 8s growing larger!)

I bought a cotton cardigan in there a couple of months ago and the size that fitted was 4-6 which they call 2XS. Hilda 2XS is definitely 4-6 not 2-4, I haven't worn the cardigan yet and I just checked the labels which I haven't cut off yet - but it's stupid either way!

The next size up (6-8) looked enormous, more like a size 10

Mind you, I tried on a coat in Next the other day and the 8 was huge (the sleeves hung way past my hands and I could have worn at least 2 thick jumpers underneath it. I then tried on a 6 which fitted perfectly, but I'm NOT a size 6!

HildaZelda · 31/10/2018 18:27

@Isadora, yes you're right. XS is 4-6. I think I was thinking of the US sizing on the tag. It's a US 0-2.

Bloomin' ridiculous any road.

luckycat007 · 31/10/2018 22:56

I hope high street shops do stay open...you need to try everything on these days for size and sending stuff back is a PITA.

@pouraglasshalffull they changed it earlier this year apparently to help shoppers. It would appear to have failed miserably!!

H&M have rejigged their sizing too and now I have no idea which size to order.

thesockgap · 06/11/2018 13:59

Just a further update, I also failed to try on the S leggings I bought (billed as a 10-12). Put them on this morning and they are GIGANTIC. I've been constantly pulling them up as they are bagging round my knees like Nora Batty. Like a PP said, I used to have to buy a size up in Primark as I found their sizing very snug, but now it's the opposite!

TruffleShuffles · 06/11/2018 14:14

Their sizing has gone huge, I used to be a S/8-10 and now with their new sizing I’m still a small but I’m also 8 months pregnant! I still even in small elasticed bottoms.
