Narnia themed ball

As the title suggests- it's a local fundraiser and no idea what to wear. It's not quite fancy dress but a nod to the theme is probably expected.

Think make up is probably the way to go..but I like the idea of something sparkly clothes wise too.

I'm 5''3 , size 12-14 and have bit of a tummy at the moment. Prefer upper arms covered.

Any inspiration?

Pale makeup and a fake fur shrug and go as the White Witch? Make your partner wear fur leggings and go as Mr Tumnus? Grin

More seriously, green dress and some ivy leaves in your hair and be a dryad? Unless it's full-on fancy dress (and frankly, even then), you don't want to be prancing about as Aslan or a Talking She-Beaver or a Marsh-Wiggle.

Might make dancing a bit tricky....

I'd go as Susan towards the end of the saga, when she was 'no longer a friend of Narnia', ie a normal young woman not a godly forever-child running round with a resurrected lion.

I think she committed the sin of wearing a bit of make-up, possibly nylons. Barred from Narnia heaven, so she was.

Lio, witch and wardrobe is set during WW2 so you could go with a 30s/40s theme, with victory rols, red lips and defined brows.

Do you have anything vaguely kirtle-like? In green?

whereswaldo · 29/10/2018 11:37

Hmm I definitely leaning more towards white witch than 60s- purely because it's an evening ball and blokes will prob be in black tie.

Love the wardrobe idea. My friend is pregnant and her husband already suggested it for her Smile

Rennesance type clothes with a little crown and you can be Susan or Lucy after the white witch was defeated.

NoodleEatingPoodle · 29/10/2018 11:38

Anything with an animal print would be a nod to the theme, even if it's just accessories?

whereswaldo · 29/10/2018 12:33

Ooh that is nice. Not sure whether full length will be OTT def the right idea though!

I imagine there will be a lot of white witches - you could try her Queen Jadis of Charn phase instead - dark dress, tiara and attitude! Or Ramandu's daughter (outraged to discover that she doesn't have a name in her own right!). Or go Arabian nights style as Aravis/Lasaraleen?

Atalune · 29/10/2018 16:21

There is a gorgeous animal print shirt dress in top shop, with flat black suede knee boots and a fur stole, you could be the lion.... gold accessories and make up. That’s what I would do.

OlennasWimple · 29/10/2018 16:40

If you can wear green, there are lots of long and short dresses so you can be the Lady of the Green Kirtle

redexpat · 29/10/2018 16:47

Any chance you can get hold of a wedding dress for the white witch?

redexpat · 29/10/2018 16:48

Or you could dress as a 1940s schoolgirl with a gasmask box as a handbag.

whereswaldo · 30/10/2018 07:47

Thanks everyone. Decided to go for a normal plain navy dress but have some wow silver accessories, cream fur wrap and icy face jewels/glitter.

Hopefully will be enough effort without feeling too silly!
