It needs to be leather, in a tan or lighter brown shade. It doesn't need to fit a laptop. Messenger style bags are too narrow, and I don't like satchel style either. I always carry a paperback and a water-bottle. I want it to have a shoulder strap but I like grab handles too. I like a softer, unstructured sort of look rather than anything too boxy. I don't mind if it has pockets or not.

I like Fossil, but the Rachel Satchel seems a bit small. The Fossil Maya satchel is a contender, but I worry it is a bit frumpy looking?

Budget is 250.

Oooo, Womble - interesting!

I like the first one and the lining. Cheaper than the Scaramanga one, too...

Not leather (they are a vegan friendly company) but I can recommend the bags by Mia Tui ... i’m not really a handbag person but I love the attention to detail/practicality of these

@ThrownMuse mine is arriving on Thursday. I've convinced myself into liking it again now. Who knows how I will feel when I open the parcel?

THIS is why I hate shopping. I posted an earlier thread here about a shopping spree I am going on in Edinburgh next week - booked a personal shopper and everything - and I am half way pleased about it and half dreading it.

When does yours arrive?

Fix I think you have made the right decision, honestly, and I can't wait to see it and hear your opinion (cos then if my choice is bad I can steal your idea!).

My birtthday is next week and I've asked for vouchers, so will order next weekend. Imagine it will arrive the week after that. So delayed gratification for me, there!

I actually hate shopping too. I would rather buy one really good item now and then (hello, beautiful DM dark brown leather Chelsea boots) then every week.

But....Edinburgh! V exciting - who is the personal shopper with, or is someone who brings you lots of things to your hotel room, whilst you sip champagne?

AuldAlliance · 30/10/2018 17:24

this any good?

ThrownMuse · 30/10/2018 17:56

I like that too!

But I think the Scaramanga is winning for me.

fishonabicycle · 30/10/2018 20:24

Some beautiful bags here.

fixtheironingboard · 31/10/2018 20:11

It's here! It's here!

I love it.

I don't love the strap - but the grab handles are long enough for me to use those over my shoulder (in most coats) so I don't mind too much.

Joyous news!!!!! So wonderful to hear that you do indeed love it and that the handles aren't an issue.

Are you packing and repacking all of your things and having fun working out where everything is going to go?

Nothing - nothing - beats new bag joy.

fixtheironingboard · 31/10/2018 20:44

I am! I am.

I'm also realising it makes my winter coat look a bit shabby, so more shopping may be required.

The pockets are a nice size, the leather is lovely and soft and the zips and buttons are all very heavy duty, which I like. It has little studs on the bottom to keep the bottom clean - which I like too. The shape looks pretty structured on the pictures, but actually with stuff in it, and fastened up (I've been modelling it for myself in front of the bathroom mirror like a LOON) it seems a bit more crumpled and softer.

I probably could have got something else that I loved a bit cheaper - there have been SO MANY nice bags on this thread (and thank you to everyone who has posted links - I have been dribbling over them all) but this one, I love - and it feels sturdy enough to last me a good while of heavy wear.

Fantastic news - pics please!

ThrownMuse · 01/11/2018 06:34

I am so happy for you! And by the sounds of it you absolutely made the right choice.

Also: new coat = additional joy! One for the Edinburgh trip, yes?

I am on the hunt for some smart tailored trousers...but I fear it's going to be a long, long search and the hated trying on of the clothes... I'll start with COS then work outwards...
