I'm going to a party soon, no dress code. I want to look nice but not overdressed. My wardrobe is either really casual or very dressy.

I have an Audrey dress in french navy with black piping a bit like this#www.lindybop.co.uk/audrey-princess-black.html.
I don't want to wear heels as I will probably be on my feet a fair bit so I was thinking of wearing ankle boots, like this but in black nubuck

would this work?

I don't really have any money to spend so any alternatives would need to be really cheap

why do office links never work?

here's a similar boot but mine are less chunky

The dress is absolutely fine...but the boots won't look good with it sorry.

cantquitebelieveit12 · 27/10/2018 10:47

don’t think the boots will go, flat shoes maybe?

Orchidflower1 · 27/10/2018 10:50

Dress is lovely, so are the boots but not together I’m afraid. Some flat ballet type pumps would be better. You could get cheap ones from primark, supermarket or similar for a better look if you don’t want to spend lots.

I would actually really happily wear that. Probably with black not too thick tights, a black short cardigan and a messy up do. I quite often wear that sort of dress with boots, you just need to make sure the rest of the look isn't too polished, or it looks odd.

Or for a bit of colour for a bargain

This kind of look, but dressed up a bit.

Only if the dress fabric is matt though. If the dress isn't plain enough, dressing it down doesn't work.

Thanks for your advice, I think I've some ballet flats buried somewhere, I'll try both before we go
