Trainers these days

My 15 year old muted red suede pumas have come unstitched at the toe. I’m going to have to get my head around trainers now Grin - and they’ve become a fashion thing in the meantime...Confused. Help! What brands are ok now? I’m 34, I dress nicely I think but I’ve never had any idea what to put on my feet. Would like to spend below £50. Nothing chunky. To wear with jeans / mini skirt and opaques.

I like these, are they nice? Or a bit awful? (I do have a tendency to dress like a Quality Street, so tell
me if they’re awful)

You’re ok with Nike but it’s mostly white or black (grey or khaki) that are probably more ‘on trend’ at the moment. Depends if that bothers you. Nike Internationalists come in lots of colours and have kudos! Usually around £50

SpamChaudFroid · 27/10/2018 03:32

I just bought a pair of Air Force 1 hi-tops, which I'm mad about, I do love a chunky sneaker. I removed the velcro ankle strap though. Nike Blazers nice and understated, similar to a hi-top Stan Smith.

SpamChaudFroid · 27/10/2018 03:40

Forgot to say, I have a pair of the Pumas with the giant ribbons you linked to OP. I have to be in the mood to wear them, (ie. in the mood for comedy be-ribboned feet). They also come up super wide even on my elephant feet.

Montybabe · 27/10/2018 03:51

I like all of the ones that you are chosen with a preference with 1st and 3rd. Very simple but look good.

MissWimpyDimple · 27/10/2018 04:05

The Nike are the nicest IMO. Not keen on the glitter ones. Puma are ok but I prefer the colour tone of the Nike.

Lizzy1980 · 27/10/2018 04:50

Can't beat converse if you like a slightly retro look. Great with jeans or skirts and come in loads of colours

EgremontRusset · 27/10/2018 09:21

Wow thanks! I like the blue/purple Nike internationalists, maybe I’ll find some in the Jan sales. I’m not clean enough for white ones cherry but if black is ‘now’ then that’s perfect! Lizzy I used to have the most be-yoootiful silver leather Converse but they were so uncomfortable I had to give them to my mum Sad.
Zero votes for the gold glitter but I might go for the ribbon ones just for fun!

I like the Nike ones best.

Black and white trainers seem to be popular these days but they're sooososososoo dull.

Well done on making a pair of trainers last 15 years, mine are at 3 and I'm sick of them lol.

MrsRonBurgundy · 27/10/2018 09:27

Those puma ribbon ones and glitter ones are awful OP - don't get those! What if it rains on the ribbon laces? They'll go all droopy and soggy

I like the 3rd ones

Look for some Adidas gazelles in the sales maybe? They come in all sorts of colours and are super comfy. I've got a few pairs in different colours and they last for years

Lizzy1980 · 27/10/2018 10:01

Not overly comfy are they, converse. Shame as they look really good

PrivateParkin · 27/10/2018 10:07

OP I love Nike and my old Nike Airs recently died so I ordered some Internationalists. I absolutely love the style but I had to return them because the back of them - i mean the heel part - was so high and painfully dug in! I just couldn't get on with them at all, I was gutted!

I got some New Balance 996 instead which are nice (but not as nice as Nikes). They were about £50. They might be a bit more sporty than what you're looking for though.

PrivateParkin · 27/10/2018 10:12

PS I like the gold ones you linked to.

I would opt for smart leather trainers. Grown women in fashion trainers looks a bit like they are wearing their daughters clothes.

Wauden · 27/10/2018 10:51

They all look ok.
Does anyone know of trainers taht don't have white soles, but look smart and ok for an office?

EgremontRusset · 27/10/2018 11:39

The gazelles look good - like they aren’t going to date too much

EgremontRusset · 27/10/2018 11:41

I love these - bring on the sales!

Those Hobbs sneakers you linked to have a 20% discount code on the website EgremontRusset.

MaggieMcGill · 27/10/2018 12:03

Sports direct do a pair of trainers called addidas court for under £50. I got a red/berry pair in Summer. Their Autum range are more black/grey or navy. They are very similar to the addidas gazelle that I used to wear in my youth without the silly price tag.

MaggieMcGill · 27/10/2018 12:12

Should also add that if you are a size 4 or 5 you can get away with the addidas VL court in the kids section for £32.99

EgremontRusset · 27/10/2018 16:29

spamchaud yeah, but velvet in the UK weather... I should only buy them at a price that doesn’t matter too much

Silverstreaks · 27/10/2018 22:42

Go full Quality Street with the glitter ones.

They're much more exciting than the others.
