Trainers for a 16 year old

I would like to buy my daughter some new trainers as a surprise birthday present but am unsure what is currently on trend!
She currently has a pair of black Nike internationalists and adidas gazelles. Are Vans still popular? Parents of teenagers please tell me what your daughters are wearing. 

It depends what sort she likes really. My DD loves Adidas Stan Smiths and has several pairs in different designs. She likes them as they aren't too chunky. She is 20 though so maybe her style is too old for a 16yo.

My DD of the same age wears Gazelles and Vans. I don't think she'd like me choosing for her though - she's picky about colour.

It depends on her style. Adidas NMD's, EQT's or swift run are good for athletic look.

Vans or converse for a more skater style or to wear with jeans.
