Messy bun

Why am I the only person in the world who can't do this? I have to wash my hair each day but still I can't do this and it always looks crap! Where am I going wrong?

My mate said "just don't brush or wash it for a couple of days and it'll be perfect" lol 😂

I struggle too - and my hair is quick thick and a bit wavy. It either looks pulled too tight (Croydon face lift) or falls out.

I faffed about with all sorts of complicated ways before realising that the easiest by far was a high ponytail, hair elastic tound twice, on the third time only loop it half through, pull it about a bit and leave. No grips, no spray, no doughnut, no second band. Took me years to realise. My hair is fine and wavy, I don't think it would work aa well on straight hair.

I have the same hair as you. Posters saying “don’t wash your hair for a day or two” don’t understand what it’s like!

I’ve found the trick is to first apply some volumising powder at the roots. Then roughly/quickly curl my hair with straighteners. Then use the tiny hair doughnut from Primark. This way you can add a bit of texture and volume to the bun!

I have very fine hair and I do get it
A messy bun also only works on slightly dirty hair

SugarandVinegar · 26/10/2018 19:46

There's some good how to dos on Youtube.

Fine hair here and would also love to achieve a messy bun but have to wash hair daily. Can't leave it one day as roots look greasy and straggly

I do the half pull through thing...but I don't leave the house like this!

The Small Things blog is great - think she does a two pony thing - but waves her hair first

I didn't realise people went to such lengths to loom like they overslept!!!
