my dd, now 21, so I am obviously far less involved.
i did ask at beauty saloon or said nothing needs to be done, but do people wax backs in females?

You can have whatever you want waxed. A friend of mine waxes her arms.

If body hair is an issue, how about a laser gadget for Xmas and the offer of help using it? Would work best with dark hair on pale skin.

I got bullied as a teen for having a hairy lower back, I never had the money to do anything about it so just tried not to think about it. Now I'm in my twenties it has thinned out a lot, I reckon it was hormonal. A salon will certainly wax a back if requested, I mean they wax people's bum holes so I don't see why they'd refuse to do a back!

LittleBookofCalm · 25/10/2018 08:18

ha ha, they didnt refuse but they were quite considerate about it, in that it didnt Have to be done.
will look into laser jobby. otoh how can you laser yourself?

Well at 21 what does she think? What does she want? What approaches has she tried/considered herself?

MrsLettuce · 25/10/2018 08:23

How does your DD feel about the hair? TBH at 21 I'd have been thoroughly unimpressed if my mother had felt the need to 'take an interest' in my body hair.

Cherries101 · 25/10/2018 08:25

It depends on the state of her back. I’m Indian and so we wax and thread a lot but even then my beautician won’t consider doing that for your back because apparently hair growth there can return really quickly. There are women who need to get their backs done every week or two to stay on top of it! Laser might be better.

I’m a beauty therapist and I’ve waxed lower backs on females. Most salons will wax whatever you want them to, if asked.

averageisgood · 25/10/2018 10:26

Would bleaching the hair help?

LittleBookofCalm · 25/10/2018 13:08

It is the upper back area
