Help! Hair dye!

So I’ve dyed my blonde hair “rose gold” using a box dye. It has not come out rose gold Hmm It has been likened to pink and lilac! Quite funky but not for my professional job! Has faded after one wash too.

I dyed it Friday night. I have bought a light brown to go over it. I know it isn’t great to dye twice in a week but can I get away with it? I normally dye my hair every few months, it’s in good condition. I usually use box dyes and this is the first time it’s gone wrong!

Don't put the light brown on over blonde if your hair is very light blonde as it can wash up greenish. Also, if you want to stay blonde then it can be a nightmare getting rid of the brown dye again.
I would try one of the following:

  1. vit C tablets (lots of them, crushed up to a powder) OR baking soda and mixed with shampoo, left in hair for up to and hour. Quite drying so deep condition after.
  2. Colour b4 hair dye remover.
  3. Bleach bath (sounds scarier than it is)

If it has faded significantly on the first wash then I would say you'd have good success with option 1

Thank you, will try that! I’ve just washed my hair three times with clarifying shampoo to see if that will help. Now going to dry it and assess!

Try the Vit C - crush them in a food pro - I used a bag and the back of a spoon and it was a bit gritty.
Mix about 25-30 in some Head&Shoulders type shampoo, apply, clingfilm wrap and leave 2-3 hours

I managed to get a dreadful pink/purple out of my hair (semi-per)

When I first applied I thought "Bum hasn't worked" then the next day my hair was brown again.

It's brilliant for getting fashion colours out!

I’m not sure how rose gold turned so pink but lesson learnt!

How blonde was your hair to begin with?
Mine is platinum, I used Bleach London Rosé on it and it went bright pink...I think the true rose gold look will only really work on yellow/gold blonde hair as lighter hair just grabs the pink...but I could be wrong.

You need to know exactly what you're dealing with, in order to work out the correct removal method.
The vitamin C trick is for removing direct dyes only as it's very drying. It won't have much effect on permanent dye as the molecules are totally different and sit inside the hair cortex.
I would recommend you visit a good colourist but unfortunately, a lot of high street hairdressers who have only trained up to level 2 are not very competent when it comes to removing diy box colours, so you need to shop around.

My hair was different shades of blonde but there were some very light stripes...so the rose gold came out with all kinds of interesting hues Grin It has totally knocked my confidence. I’ve dyed my hair all shades of blonde/brown over the years and it’s always been fine.

The clarifying shampoo seems to have done something. Still a slight pink hue but much better! Thank god!
