Warm everyday socks

Can anyone recommend some decent, reasonably priced warm everyday socks - preferably with wool. Walking socks are too thick. Must be machine washable.
I've previously had some from GAP (but sadly found the quality isn't what it used to be and the last few pairs shrank) and Smartwool (nice but pricey).

Finisterre merino

Not cheap but robust. Goes in the wool cycle in machine

They are not reasonably priced but I love the Corrymoor mohair socks! Over the years, I've bought a couple of pairs each year. I wash them at 30C in the machine (but don't tumble dry them). They last five or six years and I wear almost nothing else in winter. here.

Ooh - I love both of those suggestions. Thank you!

If you want some cheap and cheerful man made fibre socks you can bung in a 60 deg wash with the towels, Asda's 3 pack of thermal ankle socks are quite good

Last year Aldi did some bamboo socks... they have a slight cushioning on the heel and toe, but not as thick as walking socks

Blummin well hope they do them again this year
