Ankle boots and skinnies help for the hopeless

In an effort to be a bit more trendy I've ordered these boots.

But how do I wear with skinny jeans?
Jeans will be too narrow to wear over but surely right tucking in will leave a big gap?
Stylish friend says order a mini and opaques, I'm the wrong side of 50 and do not want DD to mutter was tragic. OTOH my legs are the only half bit decent bit of me.

Any stylish folk able to help?

You wouldn’t be able to tuck jeans into them, no. You’ll just have to deal with the ankle gap.

If I’m being honest, I don’t think the boots are stylish or trendy - so I’m not sure how you’re going to make them look quite as fashionable you’re aiming for. I would have probably gone for a slightly longer sock boot style in black, with a less chunky heel

PatriciaHolm · 21/10/2018 20:00

Um, nothing from crew is trendy....

The opaques and mini is a good call if you must have the boots...

Cheekyandfreaky · 21/10/2018 20:03

I think the boots are alright. I think you could wear them with a skirt and opaques. I also would be okay with an ankle gap or if they’re long skinnies, fold them up to create a cuff. Tbh I love this board but I do think different things suit different people.

MissWimpyDimple · 21/10/2018 20:04

The boots are classic so that's fine! Trendy was maybe an overstatement but it's all relative and the boots are nice

I struggle a bit with the concept of a gap but you soon get used to it.

If it bothers you wear socks 😊

TigerMonkey · 21/10/2018 20:07

I don’t wear ankle boots with skinny jeans cos I hate the gap. Get 3/4 length boots then you don’t have this issue.

Ploppymoodypants · 21/10/2018 20:12

Yep, if it must be jeans then ankle gap is a must. Do NOT tuck jeans in or worse get looser jeans and put over the top. If cold then I like clashing colourful stripey socks in the ankle gap (although your DD May eye roll me and mutter ‘tragic’ 😁). Personally I would choose a dark indigo jean with these boots. Well cut and minimal Lycra. No frayed edges or holes/slits.

The boots are not trendy but they are classic enough so won’t date or look too try hard.

Also agree about the opaque tights and dress or skirt.

If it helps I am the right side of 40 (just about)

singmysongtoo · 21/10/2018 20:13

Thanks all. Maybe trendy was a bit optimistic, I suppose less frumpy might be more realistic.
I've got free returns on the boots so will return them if they're awful.

I really like the boots! Roll up jeans so they are above the top of the boot. Search for ankle boots on Pinterest - there is loads of inspiration there!

AliceRR · 21/10/2018 20:21

Yes someone else posted about this recently and the answer was cold up the bottom of the jeans so there is small gap above the top of the boot. It looked good.

JellieEllie · 21/10/2018 20:22

If I wear any kind of ankle boot with jeans then I always turn the hem of my jeans a couple of times to actually create the gap. I personally like the way it looks

singmysongtoo · 21/10/2018 20:28

Thanks for the help, I'll definitely try rolling up the jeans.
Slightly concerned about a chilly ankle or a falling down hem but will persevere.

Would the navy be a better option?

I like the tan but it maybe depends on what the rest of your wardrobe is like.

Cheekyandfreaky · 21/10/2018 20:42

Op, think about your wardrobe and what you would love to put on your feet, then choose that boot. Seriously, what other people think of you is none of your business, do you and do it your way!

You’re taking the leap to try something new, so I would think about the rest of your wardrobe and your colouring. Go into some shops if you have time and try stuff on/ order and return. Make sure you can walk in them and that you love them.

ArkAtEee · 21/10/2018 20:48

I think tan boots are actually fairly trendy this season, anything brown goes.

Bluntness100 · 21/10/2018 21:00

I think maybe it's because they are quite high they seem a little old fashioned op, I'm sorry.

carrie74 · 22/10/2018 11:41

I think the boots are fine (I prefer the navy, but that's just personal preference). Classic, and look to be a decent shape.

Yes to rolling up jeans to create small ankle gap.

TheJunctionBaby · 22/10/2018 12:10

I love skinnies with turn ups and ankle boots. Both the tan and Navy look good, Brown is very on trend though and actually is timeless so probably a better longer term investment

yakari · 22/10/2018 12:59

I like the blue personally but it would go with more of my wardrobe. I wear my similar boots with skinnies rolled up or a skinny boyfriend cut (if you've got big boobs these can help you look less top heavy!) I recommend you take the boots to a store with lots of choice in jeans and see which works best for you.

Highcontinental · 22/10/2018 13:12

My eye rolling did decrees an ankle gap a must in these circumstances.

She also dislikes my ankle boots with heels and is always for flats, preferably trainers, with my jeans, and also with my minis and opaque (I’m old, but like the look)

At first it felt really weird, but now quite liberating and non frumpy (which I worry about)
