Smelly trainers

Have teenagers with smelly trainers. have tried washing machine but they're still smelly. does anyone have any advice?

Yes!
Read this on here years ago and it definitely works.
Wash the trainers, pop in a plastic bag, put in freezer for 24hrs. Apparently this kills the bacteria that make the smell, the washing doesn't.
Take them out and allow to dry naturally. I then sprinkle a bit of bicarb in.
Works like a charm.

Use super strength Odor Eaters which can be removed and washed in the machine.

fill them with cat litter and leave for a bit.
encourage dc to alternate shoes and to wear fresh socks every day.

I use dettol laundry cleanser in the wash (along with detergent) I find its the only thing that kills the smell. Mind you, that does NOT work on Nike football boots, for some reason I find it impossible to get the smell out of them Hmm I think it must be what they're made of? But for all other brands of trainers, the dettol stuff in the wash works a treat!
