Had my ghds for about 10+ years now & find they aren't cutting it anymore...so I want a new pair of for Christmas. Not sure whether to go for ghds again or if there is another brand that is decent. Any recommendations?

Don't want them to be overly expensive.

I would buy more GHDs. They will be much better than your old ones.

I got Cloud 9s recently and found them so much better than GHDs - I have the wide plate ones and they are great on my very thick curly hair

I prefer Corioliss to GHDs. Mine have been going for 10 years now they are fab

Angelcd · 17/10/2018 00:52

GHDs are the best id say i wouldnt use any others, i have the GHD wand aswell it is so good & easy to use x

hellsbells99 · 17/10/2018 00:54

The new GHDs are no way near as good as the old ones.
I now have cloud nine ones and they are great

I bought these the other day and they are absolutely brilliant. They have hundreds of five star reviews wherever you look (start with Google) and are currently half price at Boots. I’ve never got the GHD hype, they may have been superior when they first came out but once other manufacturers catch up with things like this then you’re just paying for a brand name in my opinion - and they often seem to break. I wasn’t impressed with Cloud 9 customer service recently when my niece’s Cloud 9 straighteners broke, so they were out for me too.

Chasingdandelions · 21/10/2018 20:33

Cloud 9s. I think they're by the original creator of the ghd. When my originals broke I didn't like the new ones so swapped to cloud 9s and have never regretted it.

Sforsh49 · 21/10/2018 20:51

Cloud 9. New GHDs just don't seem to get hot these days Cloud 9 are like the original GHDs and mean I can blast dry my wavy, thick coarse hair and straighten it within 20 mins!!

Fishandthechips · 21/10/2018 21:59

I have a Loreal Steampod and its amazing. I have thick, curly/frizzy hair and I can straighten it all in 15 minutes now. Other straighteners would take 45 minutes!

maddjess · 22/10/2018 01:20

Steampod here. Not used my GHDS since I bought it

CutesyUserName · 22/10/2018 07:20

Cloud 9's all the way. The company is owned by the guy that use to own GHD then sold it (the new GHD people made changes which mean the new ones are not as good). Cloud 9 is exactly what GHD's used to be.

Swiftier · 22/10/2018 13:33

I have an old Steampod and rate it. I bet the newer one is even better!

Helpmepleasenow48 · 22/10/2018 14:26

I debated getting a steampod a few years back then had my hair cut shorter. Now it's longer (and bleached at the ends) wondering about it.
How do they work - they look a bit clunky?

Fishandthechips · 22/10/2018 15:31

@Helpmepleasenow48 They are bigger than the average straightener but I find that much better with my thick hair as it gets the job done quicker. I dont particularly like the faffing about with water (you have to use deminiralised/de-ironosed so the tubes dont get clogged up) but they work so well that I can live with it.
I would say it takes a couple of goes to get used to the difference but when your used to them other than the water it feels like using a normal straightener.

maddjess · 24/10/2018 01:57

Agree a faff but worth it.

I've always just used tap water no problem x
