What to wear to the Sky Garden?

My lovely DP is taking me to the Sky Garden in London on Friday night for dinner and cocktails but I have no idea what to wear - help!

We're not going to the uber posh restaurant as couldn't get in, but I want to look smart. I've got either a velvet pleated skirt with sequin vest and fluffy cardigan to wear over, or I have a pair of smart black jeans and a new red shirt. Or a black dress.

Regarding shoes, should I wear a heel? I have purple boots with a heel or I have some loafers - would they look ok with a skirt though?

I don't want to look try hard and out of place, but equally I don't want to look like a country mouse in the big city. Advice please!?

Your outfit with the pleated skirt sounds lovely. Lots of people will go there after work so will be dressed up, and you won’t look out of place. I’d wear whatever shoes are the most comfortable, as there’s always a lot of walking when going out in London, I think the loafers will look fine.

If you are in the bar area it can be very chilly with the doors to the balcony opening and closing . Rugs are on chairs but that might not be the look you are aiming for !
DH went to the building for a meeting and I waxed enthusiastic so he went early for a coffee. .
” How was it ?” I asked
“Cold” he grumped
“But, but there are blankets “ I stammered
“[sceptical] What in this suit ? “ obviously not the style he was aiming for !
Anyhoo your first outfit sounds lovely .

Don’t worry about going too Smart, as PP said it gets nippy up there. Last time I went there were lots of tourists / cool young things in casual wear, so I think smart casual would be fine, but really anything goes. Enjoy your night!

There’ll be a lot of people in jeans and trainers, skirts and trainers, office wear or dresses up. A complete mix.

One of the lovely things about London is that (apart from places where the TOWIE cast go) no one gives a stuff about anyone’s outfit (especially at a place like the Sky Garden where some will just be there for the view and a coffee). Wear whatever makes you happy and enjoy!

I think the black dress with purple boots sounds nice.

The brasserie is lovely but not overly 'posh' so whatever you feel good yet comfortable in will be fine. I wouldn't bother with tottery type heels, but something mid height and blockish, or lovely ankle boots would be more "London ", if you know what I mean.

Thanks so much for all your advice, I have gone down the smart casual route and I am so looking forward to Friday!

Arghh. Just lost my last message.

I’m going there tonight and haven’t got a clue what to wear. I don’t really want to wear work clothes but other than that I only have jeans. I don’t think they’ll be smart enough.

BiscuitDrama · 19/10/2018 14:46

When I went I wore a sequinned top and dark jeans, with flat ankle boots. I didn’t feel out of place.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 19/10/2018 15:12

Jeans and a smart top perfectly fine. Enjoy!

Hope you’re having a lovely time angbunnyboo. View is amazing isn’t it. Service is a bit slow though!

Angbunnyboo · 20/10/2018 18:40

Thanos did you have a lovely time? I couldn't believe the view, it was amazing, Ive never seen London at night like that before! And the cocktails were brilliant, I tried a few!

It was lovely. Staff were really friendly but I think there were too few of them. Shame you couldn’t go outside. I agree, lovely cocktails. Tried talking dh into a bottle of Dom Perignon, can’t imagine why he wasn’t up for it!
