Dress for Indian ceremony/reception - "colourful/traditional Indian" dress code?

The groom is a business contact of my DH so I don't know the bride at all, and all I have to go on is the dress code on the invite "colourful/traditional Indian". Venue is not a religious one (country house etc). I'm 50s, blonde, short and plump and was thinking of a colourful (green or purple) shift dress plus some sort of silk pasmina/wrap. But now I'm trying myself in knots googling appropriate outfits! I think red is a no no, and a longer dress may be better. Has anyone got any suggestions for a cheapish outfit?
