Why have Clark's got so expensive?

Clarks used to be my go to for well-made reasonably priced footwear. I am also a fan of Kurt Geiger / carvela which I tend to think is good quality but pricey. Whereas Dune is also nice and can be quite reasonable price but not the same quality.

Anyway Clarks nowadays is very expensive and really I'd rather go to other more fashionable makes rather than pay a premium for what is often not as stylish footwear.

Does anyone know why they put their prices up so much? It really irritates me as they just aren't worth the money anymore.

Anyone else want to join me in Clarks hate?

I do like Clark's, but never pay full price. There was a 20% off voucher last week & their sales are usually good, plus you can buy from the outlet (on-line & in-store).

I think the quality of their products is way better than any of their rivals.

Sorry but I do think they are worth the money. Might not be the most stylish but super comfy and well made on the whole.

I will join you in Clarks hate!

Poor quality for the price - rubbish plasticky leather, crap linings, generally just cheap-looking without being cheap. Their girls' shoes in particular are a disgrace.

Shame, because I used to shop there and they are good at shaping shoes to fit my weird feet. But the quality has really taken a dive in the past few years... and the prices haven't.

I don't get the clarkes love tbh.
I think a lot of the shoes are frumpy and a lot aren't all that great quality wise.
I also think they are v expensive.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/10/2018 22:30

Agree. I always used to buy Clarks ankle boots, knowing they would last 2/3 years but i just can't afford them now.

divafever99 · 15/10/2018 22:33

I recently got my work shoes from there, but I waited until there was 20% off. Think they were still over £40 though. With size 2 feet its difficult for me to find anywhere else that does small adult shoes. Tried to get some new ones for my dd yesterday, tried on several pairs but all ill fitting and they were £40 for a Children’s size 12! I've just ordered her some from m&s for half the price and I am hoping they will be ok.

Clarks still make mainly leather shoes where kurt Geiger have switched to fabric, that’s partly the reason. I stopped shopping at kurt Geiger- like hell am I paying £80 for a fabric shoe! Their quality has nosedived in recent years.
Clark’s are not always the prettiest but their shoes do last at least a little longer than your average high street brands.

SergeantPfeffer · 15/10/2018 22:35

I think leather prices have gone up across the board.

ZenNudist · 15/10/2018 23:22

I was looking at 2 pairs of ankle boots in kurt keiger today. One leather for £130 one suede for £100. As is my habit i wandered into clarks thinking that i used to be able to get cosy ok style shoes for much less than that. They dad £125 fugly ankle boots!. Not the same nice styles.

I agree to not wanting to pay £80 for a fabruc shoe. Clarks have £60 fabric ballet pumps with plastic linings. Do they think we are stupid? I expect they will all be in the "sale" at £30.

Im not saying quality is that great at KG any more lately but at least their shoes look nice. Clarks have ugly shoes at rip off prices.

Its annoying that the drop in quality of clothes that's been going on for decades (at least 2 by my reckoning) is affecting shoes.
