How can I curl my hair when I'm cack handed...

I've medium length (between chin and shoulder) very fine hair. I've tried curling with a wand and I keep burning my ear/head. I can do it ok on someone else's head just not my own.

I think I need rollers maybe? What are the best ones for fine hair, that don't take hours, are really (and I mean really) easy to use and that I could reasonably pack in a suitcase for a wedding abroad?

Also am struggling to keep a curl in, despite liberal use of heat protector spray, mousse, styling spray and hairspray...

Babyliss curl secret

dameofdilemma · 16/10/2018 09:53

Have read mixed reviews on MN about the Babyliss - will it give proper curls (on curl resistance fine hair) and not just volume?

I have both and prefer the heated rollers (also babyliss). I can't get the hang of the curl secret. It gives me ringlets and flat roots. It will, however, definitely give a curl on curl resistant hair.

dameofdilemma · 16/10/2018 12:06

Definitely don't want ringlets and flat roots....

Am going to experiment with velcro and bendy rollers as they might be an easy option to transport. And I can't burn myself.

I can't quite work out how they just stay in your hair so will buy some clips too in case.

Just using straighteners for curling is the easiest IMO. I didn't like the curl secret and it was too "ringlety" for me and rollers don't seem to hold very long for me

I love curl secret. Very easy to use . You can use rollers at rhe top if required.

What kind of curl do you wish? Curl secret gives between waves and yes I guess ringlets but you obviously don't leave them as ringlets, more wavey curls if that makes sense.

dameofdilemma · 16/10/2018 13:10

I sort of want volume at the roots and a wave in the rest. My hair struggles to hold a curl (its v straight) so even if its ringlets to sytart with expect it will drop to waves.

Do you use Babyliss on dry or wet hair? I'd be using the Velcro rollers on damp hair. Can I combine the two? And is the Babyliss hot to touch (as that doesn't work for me and my ears/scalp...).

I have old fashioned curling tong after burning my face with both a wand and straighteners.

shakeatailfeather · 16/10/2018 13:42

This is not quite what you asked but i have similar hair that won't hold a curl and i have found that using old fashioned setting lotion helps. I decant it into a spray bottle and use either tongs or a really cheap twisty curler thing. Its the only way i have found to keep the curl in.

Bluntness100 · 16/10/2018 22:14

Babyliss curl secret is on dry hair, like tongs. Wet hair and you'll frazzle it.

I also use Velcro rollers at the roots of mine to give some lift, I just spray with some hairspray and leave them in for awhile. Not sure if this helps, but here is mine curled with curl secret.

No it's not hot to touch, it's totally encased in plastic, so you can't touch the hot part. You basically take a small section of hair, at the top close to the roots, sit it in thr barrel, squeeze it shut, and it rolls the hair up then beeps when it's done. You can do different hear settings and length depending on how you wish thr curl to be.

I got my curl secret delivered yesterday. Already starting to get the hang of it. Once my hair was all shaken out the ringlets turned into bouncy waves.

MarcieBluebell · 17/10/2018 03:10

Straighteners every time. Takes no time.

MoltonSilver · 17/10/2018 08:09

It would probably be cheaper and less likely to fall flat or burn you if you book a curly blow dry at your destination.

Blunt - I have hair envy!

I may be sold on the BBCS...is it bulky to pack?

Thanks, but it looks shit unstyled ...🤣

Yes it's fairly bulky, I'd say the barrel is as big as a mans fist,...
