Comfortable but stylish ankle boots RED

Hi there

I'm looking for a pair of bright red ankle boots to go with a dress, probably with a stiletto heel, not too high if possible, block heel not ruled out. I don't really ever weal heels apart from very rare special occasions, and am very nervous of buying a pair only for them to cripple me. Does anyone have a tried and tested brand that they know don't hurt?

I've seen quite a few potential pairs, but don't know whether to go cheap, as they're likely to kill my feet anyway, or to throw money at the problem (although don't really want to spend more that £120 max), in the theory that more money = better engineering.

I've got a few pairs of Sam Edelman shoes (including Petty boots), which tend to be a safe bet (although can't find the right pair of red boots by them at the moment). For heels, I've always trusted LK Bennett (sales!), but again not seeing anything at the right price range.

Any recommendations?

Heeled boots are much easier to wear than shoes. I’d be inclined to try on any cheap pair you can track down and see how you go. If you don’t like wearing heels then you won’t get enough wear out of them to go for quality anyway.

Good point. I've ordered a selection from TK Maxx, none more than £25 Smile...

Why do they have to be red? The chances of finding the right red is very slim and if the reds are different it will look bad.

travailtotravel · 15/10/2018 21:47

In think there were some in M&S ....

hendricksy · 15/10/2018 21:55

I have some from new look .. everyone says how lovely they are !

BigFatBloomers · 16/10/2018 10:38

M&S have a few. How about these if none of your TK Max ones are any good?

MoltonSilver · 16/10/2018 11:58

Mint Velvet

carrie74 · 16/10/2018 15:07

Thanks All

I'd seen those M&S ones too, but not too sure of the lace up aspect for me. But may revisit if TK Maxx is no help.

Re: why red. I just fancied red . I've got black boots that work too, but wanted something a bit wow. The dress has different shades within it so I think could be quite forgiving, but I won't know til I see the boots with the dress.

I also saw these and LOVE, but quite a lot of money (having just spunked £200 on a dress ):

Descibed as pink, but I would say more red/burgundy (have seen IRL).

Mine are similar to these , very comfy and make a statement worn with any other colour . I wore them with the hush Yasmin dress and think they were more interesting than plain black ..
Those boots look very pink to me .

MoltonSilver · 16/10/2018 15:24

The pink pair look pretty pink to me tbh. They run the risk of looking a bit Barbie.

carrie74 · 16/10/2018 16:34

Thanks, I thought the Mint Velvet ones were a bit pricey for quite ordinary shoes, but if they make fantastically comfy shoes, I'd give them a go!

Thanks for the New Look links, I've had bad experiences with New Look shoes in the past, so have avoided. Although these are fab: https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/footwear/boots/red-leopard-print-pointed-suedette-boots-/p/597057469?comp=Browse. But the dress is red leopard print...

Here's the dress. i think it would be quite forgiving of colour. But possibly not pink. https://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod107011100010030103253033-1

I personally think red boots with that outfit is too obvious .. and too much . I'd got for an opposite colour . I wear my red boots with black or neutrals . Nice dress though !

Shockers · 16/10/2018 17:17

I saw red boots with heels of varying sizes in M&S yesterday. Their shoes are usually quite comfortable too.

happyrayoflight · 16/10/2018 18:33

Red shoes and no knickers so they say !!! Although I live quirky boots

Member · 16/10/2018 18:58

check Out Vagabond various reds in their ankle boots (although I am inclined to think black might be a wiser move at their prices)

carrie74 · 16/10/2018 20:25

Thanks Hendricksy, I don't think I'd wear red boots with it all the time (and would also like to team the red boots with jeans. I just really fancy some red boots! ). Was also inspired by DMBL40 who wears some killer red boots with the dress.

Thanks Shockers, I may yet go to M&S, good to know they tend to be comfy.

Happy, there will DEFINITELY be knickers

Checking out Vagabond now...

I have this pair in black - very comfortable. Cheap and cheerful. The red pair would suit leather skirts/trousers, dresses, band tees etc.

I love these but a bit out of my price range considering I wouldn’t wear them often. They look gorgeous and classy on though!

These are quite sassy too, but again I wouldn’t wear them much

hannnnnnnxo · 16/10/2018 22:04

Block heels are so more comfortable than stiletto heels. Especially with boots - ankle boots with a block heel could keep you comfortably on your feet from 7am to 11pm if you have a good quality pair. I personally think red boots would look better with a block heel rather than skinny heel as it suits the aesthetic much more. Unfortunately the current trends of this season ARE block heels and western heels (thick and curved) so you probably won’t find many options for stiletto styles.

Long tall sally Saw these (in white) in the Sunday Times style guide. I have them in black and they're really comfortable for a night out.
