Mulberry Antony Messenger Bag

I'm in the very lucky position of being able to treat myself to something lovely. I have always, always pined for a Mulberry Antony messenger bag and would really appreciate some advice from people who have one. Should I get the large or small one? I'd also really like a Mulberry purse, but I have heard that they don't fit in the smaller of the messenger bags - is that right? Also, as it's highly unlikely I will ever be able to spend such an amount on a handbag again, I think I should get the black one as it will go with most things - but then I thought I could go wild and get a red purse. Advice would be greatly appreciated!

I originally got the small one and regretted it as my mulberry purse would not fit I changed to a smaller purse reluctantly, then 2 years later bought the larger bag

I've got the Joel which is a similar size I think to the small and I have a long purse. It's a struggle fitting anything other than my phone in as well. But, love having the cross body bag and will be getting a large Antony as my next bag. I alternate with my Bayswater so if I need a big bag I have that.

I have the old style small black Antony and it’s really quite small. I use a felt liner in all of my Mulberry bags to help keep their shape and protect the inside from marks. The liner makes the small Antony really small. That said I use it lots as it forces me to travel light. I can fit phone, small purse, keys and a few other small bits.
The large Antony is quite a bit larger, which I think is great for carrying around lots of stuff but it looked too large on me when I tried it on.
Apologies if you’re already aware, but if not, I would say beware the new Mulberry bags. Generally speaking the quality has gone down hill in recent years (as prices have rocketed!)
The old NVT leather was tough and wore extremely well (justifying in my view, the price) I do not hold that view with the new bags.
It may be worth joining a few FaceBook Mulberry lover groups to learn more. There are still occasionally older Antony bags in the outlets, which are becoming rare to purchase new. My advice would be to look for a second hand unused or barely used older Bag. The FB groups are good for this and you can get them authenticated for a few pounds.
Also I suggest buying hardware protectors for the bag to stop scratches.
Sorry to waffle on but it’s a lot of money and as Mulberry fan (well the old bags anyway) I want you to love it!

I’ve got the small one in tan and a Maple in Oxblood.

I find oddly that despite almost always wearing black, they still go with virtually any outfit.

I have the small Anthony. I had it instead of a prambag as I was able to use the one that came with my buggy for the baby bits but wanted my phone and purse at easy reach.

I have the small Ted Baker purse which fits nicely across the bags base, plenty of room then for my phone and lots of other bits.

Mines 11 years old. It’s even survived DH spilling cooking oil across the front.

Keep an eye on TK Maxx for a purse though they have them in line every so often. Got one this week Continental Purse.

Worried about the quality not being what it was .... 

I would contact Labels Most Wanted and ask them to source you an older pre - loved bag. The quality of the older bags was soooo much better .

I think the Anthony bag looks like a fat face/white stuff/radley bag. It's my least favourite. Buy a cheap functional bag & spend your money on something that looks good.
