What is this line around my lips? Is it melasma?

I have noticed he last few weeks having a line around my lips that makes it look as though my lipstick is bleeding. It's a new thing and really bothering me. If I picked my lips as though to whistle it is more prominent on the top lip and looks like a brown line, but more noticeable is a pinky smudgy line on the lower lip. I've struggled to get a decent photo unfortunately but hope I've described it. It's more noticeable in bright natural light and when I'm wearing lipstick.
Over the last few months I have overhauled skin regime and introduced NIOD CAIS and MMHC in evening and alternating with vit c and azelaic acid. I usually wear sunscreen but I don't use a dedicated lip sun screen and I guess I should be. Do you wise people think this is sun damage and will it ever go away? If not, what else could it be? My lips sometimes feel tingly so perhaps just irritation from the products?
Thanks

Awful lines around my mouth (honestly I don't smoke!) but this pic shows the brown lines better

It could be from the products you have used, and the suns reaction ,
I started using some retinol, and similiar things to you,and noticed something similiar to this in the hot sunny wather, now gone thank goodness, stopped using the retinol now until winter

Is it slightly dry? My son and sister get this when we start putting the central heating on and we have to up their hydration and use carmex regularly to get it to ease off

How old are you? My lips turned more liney after I hit 50. Retinol has improved them quite a bit. I've never smoked either.

My sister had this after fillers, hyperpigmentation

ilovetosleep · 14/10/2018 08:28

I'm only 37!! And I definitely haven't had fillers!
I have a face completely free of wrinkles apart from when I do that with my lips 😂
Yes maybe a little dry and Carmex is a good idea. But I'm not sure that explains the brown line on top lip (you can only see that in the wrinkly lips pic, which is why I posted it!)

So if it's hyperpigmentation I need to up the SPF presumably, what about the products? I'm using them for mild hyperpigmentation elsewhere on my face so I would have thought it would help, but like I said it's only appeared very recently. Should I be avoiding that area with my actives?

So if spf is the answer, can anyone suggest a good lip spf that I can apply through the day? And should I be avoiding the area totally with my serums etc? Thx
