Non-frumpy coat with hood.

Does such a thing exist? Help me mumsnet!

Following walking the half mile to work the in the pissing rain the other day, I turned up looking like Robert Smith on a bad day, hair slapped down, makeup trashed.

Thus, I’ve been looking for ages (ok, just today) for a smart coat in a natural fabric like say wool or cashmere that has a hood, not a sporty one like a north face type jacket but a tailored thing. What’s going on here? Does the addition of a hood immediately make the coat lose its shape? Am I not searching for the right style? Do other, more stylish people than me not get rained upon?

Prefer not double breasted, always think it gives me the look of a lactating sow.

How do you lot deal with rain?

Thanks in advance.

Probably doesn't quite fit your brief, but M&S are doing a very good trench with hood that's getting lots of press.

H&M?

Thing is, wool and cashmere not being popular choices for a waterproof means most don't have hoods. Everyone I see who is "smart" and commuting carries an umbrella instead and wears a non-hooded trench. Or just sucks it up and wears a proper raincoat.

Thank you so much for your helpful suggestions. I realise it’s not the most practical fabric for bad weather, but honestly the down type coats make me look like a marshmallow, and here in Cornwall the concept of rain without wind is unheard of so the umbrella is out!

I like both coats suggested, but the h and m one is pretty much exactly what I said envisioned! Thank you!

Living in the wilds myself I gave up and bought a fitted down waterproof coat with hood. Best Buy of my life. It's lightweight but keeps me warm as toast. Fitted so lots of definition, waterproof and I don't get wet. Wind and rain happen all the time here so umbrellas don't work.
