Help! Need an outfit for night out

Party type event but dress will go from casual to very dressed up. I want something middle of the road that I will be able to wear again - say out to dinner or over Christmas. Nothing too bare as I will freeze! Trying to avoid buying footwear so something I can wear with black, heeled ankle boots would be good. Have totally lost my way with night out wear so all advice appreciated. Am a 10 and in 50s.

A jumpsuit? With heels/ boots Or a 3/4 length one you could wear with with shoe boots? Some lovely velvet ones around at the moment, which would be fab for Christmas time too!

If I was 20 years younger! Thank you though for the suggestion. It would be a one-off wear and I don’t think I’d have the confidence for it.

If you love the dress you've linked to you could wear it with black tights and shoe boots.

I love that & Other Stories dress! Echoing Molton’s suggestion that it would look great with black tights and ankle boots.

I wondered whether black toghts and black ankle boots might be too heavy with the Stories dress. Have had it open for weeks on my browser ... maybe I ought to just order it and see what it’s like!
