Flattering long padded “mum coat”

Hey,

Does anyone have recommendations for a warm winter coat? I’ve got some lovely wool coats already but they’re not so practical when carrying little ones with muddy feet or sticky faces.

I’m thinking a padded coat but not so Michelin Man looking.... the joules Caldecott looks ok, but wondering what others have.

I’ve just got the Caldecott in Navy and I absolutely love it! Looks good with jeans and brown Chelsea boots.
Mint velvet had a nice one but the fur on the hood was quite light so I thought it wouldn’t be very practical.

Ive got this in grey (from last year, can only see navy now). Absolutely love it and I’m not usually a Phase Eight shopper. It gets lots of compliments and is very flattering www.johnlewis.com/phase-eight-brisa-faux-fur-puffer-coat-navy/p3745660

Joules do some nice ones, they do one with an rushed waist which is very flattering, it's not available yet this year but usually pops up in November, when it does I'm going to get another one

This coat is fab, mines been indestructible and great for dog walking, weekend football watching and just cosy.

I have a North Face Metropolis Parka, just going into its 4th winter, I absolutely love it!

mistermagpie · 13/10/2018 21:40

I've got the Rab deep cover parka. Mines navy with a sort of gold lining and I really love it. It's very warm but quite fitted and 'neat' looking so it's not too mumsy. It wasn't cheap but it's on it's second winter and still looks brand new.

I’ve got this from Tog24, it was about £100 or so and is utterly gorgeous. It’s really light and comfortable yet warm, windproof and waterproof. It’s like wearing a cosy snuggly duvet. Grin

I’ve got the Caldecott, it’s fab. Really warm, looks fab and is wipeable!! The only thing I’ve found is that the hood is huge so I can’t really see when I’ve got it up!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/10/2018 22:34

Is the Caldecott waterproof then? Doesn’t say on the website.

PiggeryPorcombe · 13/10/2018 22:59

I’ve just got the Caldecotte too and am annoyed it's too warm out to wear it Angry

Minimonkeysmum · 13/10/2018 23:07

I've got the seasalt spinnaker coat and it's great - lightweight, warm and washable!

Organisedchaosalways · 14/10/2018 01:53

I just bought a cost from Seasalt (Janelle2) and it's perfect, waterproof, windproof, long ( I'm 5'3", it reaches to my calves at the back and below knees at front) is fur lined, hooded and lightweight. Also I don't look like a Michelin man in it. If you register the coat they offer a lifetime guarantee....

Zeldaaa · 14/10/2018 09:46

Thank you for all the alternatives. Looking now.

I don’t think it’s waterproof as such but I’ve never got wet when I’ve been wearing it if that makes sense. I do the school run walk in it and it’s been fine

Truckingonandon · 18/10/2018 07:42

I've just bought a gorgeous one from Tesco. Can't link to it as they no longer do clothes online but there were a few different styles that were nice.

Sonotkylie · 18/10/2018 08:47

Zara usually does good ones. Mine is going into its third year this year. Warm, flattering and works with everything. My tip would be to go for one with a belt to make it a bit less Michelin man, but it depends what suits you. Good luck! Oh and when you wash it, do up the zip (otherwise it gets caught in the machine and it's and expensive fix - or possibly not worth it)

LuckyKitty13 · 18/10/2018 08:54

Ive got the Janelle from sea salt also - it's brill. Warm and waterproof and not too bulky
