Matching undies - do you bother?

For the last few years, I've been buying into the advertising and purchasing matching bras and knickers. But now I'm beginning to think - is it worth it?

The matching knickers are usually uncomfortable, don't wash well, and cost about £15 for one pair of pants, all in the quest to look attractive in our smalls. I'm starting to wonder whether it's better to just buy a multi-pack of M&S cotton knickers and be comfortable with less risk of thrush!

Do you bother to match, or do most thing it's not worth the bother?

Yes always. And I always match my DC pants and socks to what clothes they are wearing Blush

Noviceoftheweek · 13/10/2018 21:50

Always. Shudder at the thought of mismatched underwear Wink

GhettoFabulous · 13/10/2018 22:01

Never. I like full, cotton briefs and you never get them in a matching set. And when I've spend £30 on a bra, I'll be damned if I spent another £30 for 2 pairs of pants. Daylight robbery.

GrumpyOldMare · 13/10/2018 22:07

Never.
It's not as if anyone but me (or the gp) is ever going to see them anyway....except for workmates when we're getting changed at work and none of us take a blind bit of notice of each other's undies anyway.

Worieddd · 13/10/2018 22:09

Nope unless I’m going out with DH or something

The matching undies are usually shit

huggybear · 13/10/2018 22:10

No... What's the point?

VickieCherry · 13/10/2018 22:14

Lol no. I'm a 38FF, it's hard enough finding bras I like. The knickers that match are usually uncomfy.

anniehm · 13/10/2018 22:19

I have some that do, but also lots of black knickers, and miscellaneous black bras.

Johnb0y · 13/10/2018 22:25

Rarely

Jolonglegs · 13/10/2018 22:29

Very rarely. I match my bra to my top, and my knicks to my bottom half. If it doesn't matter, then I do wear matching colours but they're not generally a matching pair. I like to wear nice comfy cotton knicks which aren't generally sold as matching a bra.
Going out for a special occasion with DP is different, and I do have a black bra and matching knicks and a white bar with matching knicks. It makes me feel good and DP likes it too.
DD has nothing but matching undies, and I suppose I was the same at her age.

theredjellybean · 13/10/2018 22:32

Always.. Usually buy two pair of knickers per bra, love Victoria secrets as often get three or four different style knickers in same set.and often the suspenders too.. Hate tights give me thrush
The knickers don't have to be scratchy or wedgie or whatever, surely that's down to the brand style etc.
I like vintage styling so lots of big knickers... And they don't have to be expensive, last set I bought was from tesco... Surprisingly good at underwear, bra plus three knickers £22

I love lingerie, and have drawers of it :)

LadyKyliePonsonbyFarquhar · 13/10/2018 22:40

Hardly ever. I tend to match my undies to my clothes, so a nude bra under a white top and black knickers under dark trousers.

Truckingonandon · 14/10/2018 07:00

Wtf has being "forrin" got to do with it?

SergeantPfeffer · 14/10/2018 07:26

Never. The matching undies are always synthetic and thrush inducing. If I ever saw a matching cotton set I might think about it, but they don’t seem to exist.

AutoFilled · 14/10/2018 07:29

Never, because I can only wear pure cotton pants.

ferrier · 14/10/2018 09:48

Is the cotton gusset not enough? I don't think I have any knickers without a cotton gusset.
I dont wear tights and trousers for thrush avoidance but haven't had any trouble with knickers.

SergeantPfeffer · 14/10/2018 09:55

Nope. Still give me thrush. Like pp, I wear pure cotton.

8FencingWire · 14/10/2018 09:58

truckin, where I come from, odd pairs of knickers in a pack are very much an alien concept. I come from a large family, never ever in my life have I seen any of the women in not matching underwear. I didn’t know you can buy odd knickers till I came to England.
Sure, packs of 5 plain white/black/taupe, you can find in supermarkets etc, but they match most tshirt bras, ie: plain cotton. If there is ever any pattern/lace etc, forget it, you would never wear it mismatched!

It’s not right or wrong, it’s what you’re used to. I gave my DD the choice, she started by wearing mismatched underwear, but soon came to the conclusion it looks and feels much better if they are matching. In her words: ‘feels like I’ve got my s**t together’.

Branleuse · 14/10/2018 10:01

I have a drawer full of knickers from matching sets ive bought over the years that are barely worn as i hate lacy or man made fabrics in pants. I love plain cotton john lewis multipack bikini knickers

Overyou · 14/10/2018 10:15

I’ve got lots of matching sets but they show through clothes so day to day I wear a t shirt bra and no vpl pants, usually non-matching.

ladyratterley · 14/10/2018 15:19

I’m in the “always” camp!
Makes me feel weird not wearing a fully matching set. Like a previous poster said, I don’t buy a bra unless there are matching knickers in my size available.
I’m a 32FF/32G so it can be quite hard to find sets. I tend to get them from Brastop or the limited range in my size in M&S which have matching knickers. A lot of the larger cup bras in M&S don’t have matching knickers which is annoying.

Meet0nTheIedge · 14/10/2018 15:33

I've never bought a matching set, they are separate items of clothing serving separate functions.

Lionsandtiger · 14/10/2018 15:46

Nope not matching. I like the multipacks of cotton pants, they never match a bra. If I was going on a special date with sex after I might try to match Grin

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 14/10/2018 15:52

Matching set, always.

OhTheRoses · 14/10/2018 15:58

Yes but I buy an £18 bra from M&S and the big knickers that match come as 3 for £10.
