80s 'fancy' dress suggestions for plus size

Hello,

I have been invited on a 80s night. It isn't fancy dress more what you would have worn in the 80s. I am 5'7 size 18-20 and I have no idea what to wear. I am going with a group of super glam women and I want to try and look the part.

Any suggestions would be amazing. Thank you.

How about dress with big shoulder pads. Big hair. Neon nail varnish. Charity shop for dress. If the shoulder pads aren't big enough you can buy them on ebay and sew in easily by hand.

I'm exactly the same size & height as you and wore a big men's frankie days relax T-shirt from Amazon - I cut it off with scissors with the neck slashed so off the shoulder flashdance style with a long black vest underneath and I did tight curls in my hair With some legwarmers etc I just wore skinny black jeans.

My plan B was Madonna lace but the above was cheaper

I wouldn't have been happy in a tutu myself but others bit louder than me wore them & looked fun

How about dressing like the women in the Robert Palmer 'Addicted to Love' video - pencil black skirt, black top with shoulder pads, heels and lots if glam makeup, with slicked back hair. It's easy to do and doesn't look too 'costumey'.

Oversized men’s blazer, adorned with lots of brooches. Would be called boyfriend blazer now. Oversized baggy tops with very tight mini skirt were another look, along with frilly socks and high heels 👠

Ooo thank you so much. The Robert Palmer idea is a very good one or a Madonna themed outfit hadn't really thought of centering it around a person.
