More jobs at risk. Sad

OP posts:
Glitteryfrog · 11/10/2018 19:53

Blimey.
I wouldn't have expected Coast to go bust.

ThomasRichard · 11/10/2018 19:55

Oh no :( I love their dresses.

TSSDNCOP · 11/10/2018 19:57

More than trouble; the DM report all stores have closed tonight.

End of an era.

dontcallmelen · 11/10/2018 20:00

Oh nooo, I have some really lovely dresses from coast, admittedly some from many years ago, have stood the test of time style wise & were good quality fabric always my go to when looking for an ‘occasion’ dress.

redwineandcrisps · 11/10/2018 20:01

What?!?! Oh bugger! Sad for everyone for loses their jobs, and selfishly sad for me as their dresses fitted my shape perfectly. What a shame :(

dontcallmelen · 11/10/2018 20:02

Yy meant to add sorry for job losses😳 as well, but was thinking noooo I have a wedding to go to next year.

Oly5 · 11/10/2018 20:14

It’s been bought by Karen Millen, it will survive, albeit with some job losses

TSSDNCOP · 11/10/2018 20:15

Only the online business. Not the stores.

TSSDNCOP · 11/10/2018 20:16

KM has survived at least 2 administrations.

If the same owner is cutting Coast lose I’d say it’s buggered.

TSSDNCOP · 11/10/2018 20:17

Loose ffs

TSSDNCOP · 11/10/2018 20:18

That said, Bluewater Coasts window looked like a throw back to 1998 last Saturday. Twenty years of the cami and peg trousers has finally caught up.

TheSassyAssassin · 11/10/2018 20:23

Oh bum! I was in a big shopping place on Saturday and went past a Coast and decided to save having a nose round until the next time I was there...! Yes, what a shame...

PlatypusPie · 11/10/2018 20:24

From a trade magazine:

‘Coast is owned by Aurora Fashions, which also owns Oasis and Warehouse.

Aurora is owned by Icelandic bank Kaupthing, which also owns Karen Millen. ‘

All very circular..........

Coast were owed nearly a million from the failure of House of Fraser, but that seems a relatively small amount to push another substantial business over.

BubblesBuddy · 11/10/2018 20:29

Cami and peg trousers at Coast? People buy Coast for an occasion. That’s not often enough. However their latest collection has been widely praised, especially the inspiration for the fabrics. This price level of high street clothes is really struggling. People either buy cheap and cheerful or reuse high end clothes. Those in the middle are facing problems.

TSSDNCOP · 11/10/2018 21:16

That ownership structures been in place for many years. For a long time it was KM that was the risky business, but KM customers will pay ££££ for daywear as well as occasion. Coast just couldn’t get daywear right. V easy for Km to suck up the Coast bridesmaid and prom into online with just a rail I store.

Sitranced · 11/10/2018 21:32

I'm not surprised you can find more Coast dresses on eBay than you can from Coast direct.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 11/10/2018 21:34

All standalone shops are closing, but their concessions are staying for now.

TSSDNCOP · 11/10/2018 21:44

Yes Bubbles Coast BW had that boring old same old in the window just last Saturday.

The thing is when you’ve got one dipped hem midi dress, how many more do you want? Coast just rock out the same designs in different fabrics year after year.

carrie74 · 12/10/2018 11:36

It's quite a strong brand, I suspect it'll be pre-packaged into someone else.

Whisky2014 · 12/10/2018 11:37

I love their stuff but its too expensive for what it is

neveradullmoment99 · 12/10/2018 11:50

Its too expensive and not fussed for their things. Its not surprising. I think a lot of fashion retailers that have overpriced their stock will go right down the pan.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/10/2018 11:51

..and this is all before Brexit.

crazyspaniellady · 12/10/2018 12:14

Jobs aren’t at risk, they’re GONE, stand-alone stores got a phone call yesterday afternoon to say “stop trading, close your doors” No one who worked in a stand-alone has a job anymore. The staff had no idea this was coming, which makes it more upsetting.

MinesaPinot · 12/10/2018 13:58

Feel very sorry for the staff who have lost their jobs (how often do we say that now, particularly in retailing) but I do think Coast have been stuck in a bit of a time warp. The last time I went into the one at Bluewater it all looked a bit "bridesmaid-y" and stiff and the styles don't seem to have changed for years.

There used to be a store in Cheapside in London along from our office, but that closed down ages ago and we all said at the time that we wondered if they were in trouble. The last thing I bought from there was an evening bag - I haven't bought any of the clothes in a long time.

nononsene · 12/10/2018 15:18

Oh God, I’ve only just returned several hundred pounds worth of dresses for a refund!! I guess I won’t see that money back.

Such a shame for the staff that have lost their jobs. Sad
