Hello lovely ladies. I need some help. I had my third baby 2 months ago and my oldest is nearly 5. Since being pregnant with my first child I've stopped investing into how I look. Whether it's clothes, makeup, hair. I want to change that but have no idea how. I think hair is my biggest problem so want to start there and would really appreciate your suggestions.

I am 33 years old and I have never had a hairstyle or have been able to style my hair for special occasions. I'd really like to be able to do something with it but I have no talent, and little time and patience for it. But am willing to learn! How would you cut my hair? The current cut started off as a shoulder length "blunt" bob (if that's the right description). I don't have time to do anything with my hair on a daily basis, I don't even blow dry it and that isn't going to change anytime soon. But I'd like to be bale to style it up and make it look great for a night out every now and again (going to a wedding next weekend so it would be a good first test).

I want to book a hairdresser appointment next week. How should I have it cut??

What about something like this OP?

Talith · 10/10/2018 00:01

I had some layers put in recently after resisting them for twenty years and instant body! A good wash, condition and brush, hairdryer if I can be arsed otherwise just air dried with some shine spray and a bit of volume powder I look pretty glossy and bouffant for not much effort.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 10/10/2018 00:08

Er, you could totally rock a pixie with that face. Let me find a pic

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 10/10/2018 00:11

How about this? She's glammed up, obviously, but that hair would look fab au natrel also. You have the hair for that kind of cut, it'll stay put and not curl

Side parting, long layers and/or a few high or lowlights? Looking good there ok, hair suits you that length in my opinion and looks to be in great condition.

7salmonswimming · 10/10/2018 00:24

You have excellent bone structure, your hair drowns your face. I’d absolutely be getting a pixie cut. Something like Juliette Binoche’s. Tiny bit of blusher and dark mascara is all the make-up you’d need.

LittleBirdBlues · 10/10/2018 00:35

Just googled pixie cut! I have never had short hair and not sure I'm brave enough! It never even crossed my mind. Intrigued now. Does it not require some styling every morning? My hair is totally straight so I'd worry it would look really flat and dull (bit like what it does now Grin)...

I had very long hair with layers until recently. The blunt cut was adventurous for me... 😊

I have no idea if it requires loads of styling - but from what you've said about your hair (fine, lies flat) it'd not need much styling if it was cut properly? Then if you wanted to gel it/ add volume at night you could dry it with a round brush to add volume? Then spray to hold.

It'd look fab with a few caramel highlights

Hogtini · 10/10/2018 01:02

Any of these would suit you, you have lovely bone structure.

I would also say that you might want to consider an eyebrow tint/pencil if you are going pixie juat to help define/frame your face and make your lovely features pop.

Monty27 · 10/10/2018 01:10

Slightly shorter and choppier. I agree though you would rock a pixie. You are very pretty. However long hair is more feminine. It depends on your personality and style.
Congratulations on the young ones you look brilliant.
Also with longer hair you can learn to put it up and look amazing, whereas you can't change short hair so easily.
Good luck go for the change Smile

happyasasandboy · 10/10/2018 01:59

I love all the suggestions shown here except the graduated cut (the grey-ish hair). It looks fab in the picture, but you can't walk around with your chin down like that without looking daft. Lift your chin, and suddenly there's no 'down' to the cut; it's a horizontal cut. And if the chin isn't down, then that bit that's hanging beautifully at the front to add to the 'down' line suddenly hangs at a funny shape at the side of your face.

I'm sure graduated works for some people, but approach with caution!

Monty27 · 10/10/2018 02:06

Are you a hairdresser happy because your post is spot on to me Smile

Hogtini · 10/10/2018 07:05

Haha good point! 👍🏻

Rarfy · 10/10/2018 07:07

I was thinking something like hogtinis pic. With it being autumn winter i would go darker rather than blonder but could definitely work towards blonde in the summer.

I also think you look lovely as you are

MissSmiley · 10/10/2018 07:17

Hi you have great hair, my hair was very similar at your age, I have twice tried a pixie in the past and although it looked nice it needs regular cutting and you will need to style it every morning. I think a few layers and keeping it long is a better choice, if you're going out pay for a bouncy blow dry not expensive at a regular salon or get one of those spiral wands to do the ends.
I second the advice about your brows, try to grow them back a bit if possible or go somewhere and have them done.
Also, for a bit of inspiration go and have your makeup done somewhere you like, mac are good or boots do it too and try to do something simple daily, you'll look more finished, for little effort, you have lovely skin too.
You're lovely looking, just need to make the most of it

WipsGlitter · 10/10/2018 07:27

A pixie needs work in my experience.
You look lovely a few layers would work.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 10/10/2018 13:06

YouTube has lots of instructional videos for "messy buns" etc. Or maybe go back to a shorter simple bob as you look like your hair will behave itself.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/10/2018 17:23

You look lovely, just the way you are !

LittleBirdBlues · 10/10/2018 17:32

Thanks so much everyone! So much advise. And sorry for the late replies, I've been out with the baby all day.

While I'm tempted by the pixie cut I know I couldn't commit to daily styling so that's a no. Perhaps I'll shorten the length a bit and add some layers. Would you keep the front long or cut some layers into the sides to frame the face? The hairdresser always asks me about this and I'm not sure what would suit my face better!

I'm curious about the suggestion of a spiral wand and a bouncy blow dry. Ideal would like to do the styling myself to save time and money!

So... What is everybody saying about my brows? Do you think they might be too thick? Or in need of colour? @misssmiley what do you mean by "grow them back a bit"?

I sometimes use BB cream and some bronzer and/or blusher after having some make up done by Bobby brown once, so I think I'm OK on that front for the occasional use.

I have similar fine straight hair to you, and I recently went for a long pixie. I styled it for the first week and then went back to wash n go. It looks fine - much better than it did long! Making zero effort looks worse on long hair (for me personally).

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/10/2018 17:51

Also I got it cut late July and it still looks fine - I will probably go and get it cut again but I don’t feel like it really needs it.

ShimmeringIce · 10/10/2018 18:06

I think a few inches off so it doesn’t rest on your shoulders would make a big difference, and should still be long enough to tie up (I think!)
