Help with styling

Hi all. I'm looking for some help.

I'm trying to bring a bit more colour to my wardrobe and have bought these trousers, the colour of which is described as plum. I'm not really sure, however, what colour tops would go with them. I don't like loud colours, I prefer muted shades and I have dark hair. Any advice?

They are lovely! Where are they from? Plum looks good with navy, black (if not very exciting), mustard-toned yellows, deep green, some shades of pink, poss. grey, def charcoal, maybe burnt orange if you want a contrast colour.... best bet is to wear them when you go shopping and just try lots of different colours on.

Thanks for your reply, @Plainandsimple. I would never have thought so many colours would go so that's great news! Unfortunately, most of my shopping is done online but at least I have some great starting points now.

The trousers are from M&S and I think they were about £30. The fabric feels gorgeous and they hang really nicely. I'm very pleased with them.

Agree with the colours above, especially mustard yellow.

Excuse me whilst I head to the M&S website! Do you like fitted or looser tops? I can envisage a deep bottle -green silky blouse with those trousers, which would look good with your dark hair. Lots of coloured chunky-knit jumpers around this season too which would go nicely, sadly I can't rock a polo neck these days (too many chins) but I've seen a mustard coloured chunky polo somewhere which again would look great with dark hair. I would go for grey, cream, white or baby pink. They're lovely!

Thanks all! Some great ideas for me to be getting on with there. I'm losing weight just now so love the idea of jumpers and silky shirts. You all certainly know how to paint a picture for me and I really appreciate everyone's help. You've reminded me of a couple of items I already have which I hadn't thought of, but now reckon will loom great.
