Please help me with my hair!

I need help with my hair! It's very fine, thin and flat, and I don't know what to do with it!

It's quite long, but I never style it (don't know how!), and always end up tying it back out of the way.

I think I have a squarish face, with quite a square hairline. I have had a fringe in the past, but as my hair is slightly wavy, I always ended up with a cow's lick.

When I was in my 20s, my hair was in quite good condition, and I used to just wear it down and swish it about! It seemed to sit better back then.

I'm now mid 40s and feel like I need a "proper" hairstyle or at least know what to do with my hair. I like it long but it seems silly if I just tie it back all the time because it no longer "sits" properly when down. I feel like I need to go shorter because my hair is flat and all the weight of it pulls it down, but I don't have a good jawline for short hair, my ears stick out and I wear glasses!

Anyone any advice? I feel like every time I go to the hairdresser they never give me a good cut or style that suits me. I might post a pic later if I'm feeling brave!

Also, how on earth do I style my hair?! I feel like I've missed an important lesson! I don't own anything other than a hairdryer, and I rarely use it, prefering to just tie my hair back. I need help! I want to feel like a proper grown up with proper hair! Whenever I (on the rare occasion I do!) go out I look silly with tied back hair - help!Blush

if you are feeling brave, you could go for something like this. if not, then i would suggest getting it cut into layers like this which may help it lye better. you could then tie it in a messy bun ( tie a pony tail, grab the end, wind round hair band holding pony tail secure hair band over the bun like you are tying a ponytail) or a side plait :)

Go to the best hair dresser you can afford or if you know someone who always has well styled hair, ask them where they go? I'm always taking pics to my hairdressers but they often say that certain styles and colours won't work on my hair.

My hair is also fine and thin and flat. It hangs like a pair of curtains!!!!
I can't style mine- nothing holds, and products just weigh it down and make it lank.
It's shoulder length and I've had layers and blunt ends ... just to do something with it but it doesn't make much difference. Highlights worked- to give it the appearance of texture but tbh I couldn't be bothered with the effort and expense...
Sorry- no help at all but following with interest...

Thanks all.

Sleep - I kind of like the second one you linked to (I fear the first one will look like Judy Murray on me!), although not sure. I actually think it's my hairline that's the problem - it's squarish!

I'm wondering if a fringe may be the answer, but I fear I'll end up looking like a teenager (and not in a good way)!

IBJS - I always go to a "good" hairdresser, but wondering if I need a more senior stylist. I feel like I need someone who can go "Right! This is what will suit you!", rather than someone just giving me a vague cut & blowdry because I'm never sure what to ask for!

If I add a photo, can I remove it later??

Mine is the same and I always tie it back. No style ever looks good. It's bothering me more as I get older!
