Why are night creams better than day creams

I have odd skin and struggle to find a decent moisturiser that feels like it's actually working - most are quickly absorbed and my skin feels tight/dry/dehydrated all over again. I've tried serums etc too and they don't seem to make much difference.

What I do find though is that night creams are much better than day creams in terms of being moisturising. TheM&S 8 hour sleep moisturiser was great, for example.

Why is this? Does the spf make it less moisturising?

I think nightcreams are just richer because you don’t apply make up over them.
