So. If I want to start exercising more and make it part of my routine, I need to figure out when I properly get ready for the day... Wondering how other people do it. My friend trains every day after the school run and does her shower, hair and make up afterwards. But AFTER the school run. I might be brave enough for that. What do you all do?

It depends on loads of things really.

What time are you planning on going? How much time do you have? What are your plan after?

I used to either

Go to bed wearing gym clothes (a tip from Beyoncé) get up, brushed teeth and put hair in a ponytail and grab gym bag already packed the night before. Have shower and do make up/ hair at the gym. That was when I was a member of a David Lloyd type gym.

In another time of my life i used to get up and throw gym clothes on, brush teeth and throw hair in a bobble and do the school run. From school run, go straight to gym. After gym, straight home and have a shower etc at home. I used to do that when I was a member of a gym with grotty changing rooms and also I wasn't working. I spend less time faffing around when I get ready ready at the gym.

What’s brave about doing the school run in gym clothes (and presumably no make up-the horror —get a grip—!!)??

I get up at 5am, get dressed in any old thing, pack my bag for the pool, have breakfast and go to the pool nearest work, swim, shower and dress there before work. Or I do a yoga video on youtube at home but that doesn't make me sweaty so I do that after my shower and then change into work clothes afterwards.

I either get up at the crack of dawn and do it all before I would normally get up so can come back to the house and shower etc. Or I go to the gym right after work if child is at a club, or run home. I couldn't care less about turning up at school looking a mess, it's just smelling bad after getting sweaty that I don't like. But, exercise is important and I need to squeeze it in however I can.

MrsMaria I've had a lot of years of ill-health and am just starting to be able to do all my own cleaning and washing...during my illness not looking ill was quite important to me so doing my hair and makeup before the school run was a big part of my self-care. I don't even wear makeup all the much any more, but I mean, this is the Style and Beauty board! Not unreasonable to think this is a 'thing' for lots of people.

I am looking forward to exercising more but this question of when to do it in relation to getting ready seems to be a bit of a mental block for me, so I'm just working it out. I keep trying to be really efficient and I think sometimes I might just have to accept that I might shower twice or something. I have lots of time in the day as I don't work, and I don't even walk my kids to school most of the time. I don't honestly know what I'm worrying about. I think this is all excuses!

After school run sounds best! Get up, put on gym kit, a bit of lipstick/concealer/waterproof mascara then straight to gym, home, get showered and ready.

Doje · 06/10/2018 09:48

I go once the kids are in bed, or if I'm lucky whilst DP is putting the kids to bed. Is that an option for you?

Full shower, makeup etc after exercising. Bit of mascara and BB cream with exercise clothes on for the school run. That’s what I do anyway - am far too vain to go out makeup free!

Thanks everyone. I just need to get over this, obviously. Grin
