And Chicago!

Ellapaella · 20/10/2018 14:48

Sorry I read you'd be wearing your new skirt tonight.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 16:21

Sorry I abandoned the thread with no news of my mid season sale Hush parcel, tbh after the last 2 weeks work travel (and I was also homeworking yesterday) I was actually too tired to even try things on when I returned from Paris, terrible!
It’s a beautiful sunny and warm day in East Anglia and still having a quiet weekend to aid complete recovery, not travelling again till November. Yeay!
Cake lovely pairing of the Rose jumper and marina skirt 👍
ella I remember the hormonal days, well past that now but be grateful for your oestrogen highs and lows they help keep your figure and bones (not a lot of consolation when you’re feeling crap but thought the idea would cheer you)
laska Flowers I feel for you
miffy exciting Chicago trip!
never and cherries if I EVER get my act together will come to you for eBay tips Wink

So, my parcel is a mixed bag. Returning: black wool wide trousers which are far far too long and don’t like them on me enough to have shortened. A black long sleeve T with a frill at the bottom which looked like a bargain but looks so pants on I understand why they never sold out. Also a pink silk mix shirt with flouncy sleeves that could have been so good but not generous enough at the chest and don’t love enough to reorder.
Like the burgundy sweat, so keeping that a bargain at the price.
Also like the olive green culottes, could see me wearing for work a lot so I May keep. See pics as I need your honest opinion.
Finally another flouncy sleeve top which was only available in a 14 and i think I will return, it’s too wide and the 12 was o.o.o but before I do let me know if it’s just in my head?
In fact if I’m totally honest even the culottes I’m not 100% sold on...this may be in my head but just thinking what I’ll wear with other than a pink silk shirt...🤔 is it too long?

Yes sorry I just threw on the culottes and flouncy shirt together as hesitating whether to keep.
The culottes look better with pink or burgundy as seen with the sweat which is the only item I’m keeping as it’ll be useful and was a bargain.
The flouncy printed shirt again with some black trousers so you see it loose rather than tucked in. I think I need a neater size 12 fit to carry off such a busy print...Hmm

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 17:48

cake that combo looks really good.
Soy the culottes look useful, but I suppose really if you have a few things that will go with them, the flowery top looks a tad boxy in that size.
Feel for everyone that is hormonal, I suffered soo badly had a hysterectomy when I was forty four & was a blessed relief, but am now having awful hot flushes, but only at night which is something compared to some people I know.
Miffy trip sounds amazing.
Ella Dublin is a brilliant place for a weekend break, lots to see & do, food is also very good.
Another beautiful day here in London, very sunny & about 19deg had two loads of washing out.
I’m wearing M&S jeggings, navy vest & pale green merino boyfriend cardigan.

ilovecherries · 20/10/2018 18:09

I had my last period on my 52nd birthday (how average can one be), but I was still b/f at 43 and tbh I never established a normal cycle after that. Lurched straight from breastfeeding into a decade of pre-menopausal misery and although I feel a lot better now, I still get hot flushes and palpitations and hellish insomnia. In fact, I notice that mum at 85 still had the occasional flush. Not sure the extent to which she notices them but they still look quite spectacular.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 18:11

Thank You melen for the feedback. I hesitated with the culottes, I already have the Bryce striped culottes which are a similar fabric weight but I think far smarter so back they go. Same for the printed top.
In a way it’s good no one is around to enable me 😉 or in your case was a bit late as I’ve packed everything now to return with the exception of the burgundy sweat which I’m definitely keeping as it has just the right amount of slouch for me and being a summer weight (and a bargain at £21) I prefer it as I’m not fond of thick sweatshirts.
To reward myself for such thriftiness I’ve gone and ordered a new Stella jumper (I have 2 already from previous seasons, they’ve been worn loads and looking a bit tired) in navy blue with metallic gold star.

I know I know they’re old hat now but still one of my Hush faves and while I was there I ordered the bargainous plamplona frill skirt @£20 which I’m totally expecting to return...thought worth a try even though it looks too short on the model. I’m bordering on petite height so it may be fine, we shall see...

Have a lovely weekend all!

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 18:16

cherries I had an unexpected early menopause at 40 years old, never found out why but it felt very lonely at the time with some of my best friends still having babies. 16 years on I still get the odd hot flush at night...I’m really like a 70 year old as far as that goes and my only worry is my bone density. I’m going to ask my GP for a scan as I do wonder if that’s the reason my ankle fractured with such a silly fall/twist in July Hmm

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 18:19

Soy you definitely need the halo back😇 I like the star jumpers too.
Pamplona skirt definitely worth a punt.
cherries I have bouts of awful insomnia you have my sympathy & palpitations which can get quite scary, as I have dilated cardiomyopathy & my hearts does odd things at times.

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 18:21

Soy that’s tough especially, when friends are still having babies, could well be why you had the fracture, I would definitely try & have a bone scan.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 18:25

I remember going to see my GP who said the blood tests only showed I was pre-menopausal which was no help at all as my periods just stopped! He chucked an HRT leaflet at me and that was it.
In my country I would have been referred to a gyenocologist I’m sure but here? Nada de nada and I was too stupid at the time to insist on further tests and referrals.
Thinking about it makes me feel 🤬 even now so enough said.
It’s good that in the last 10 years the topic of menopause is discussed much more openly but 16 years ago when it was a bit of a taboo subject and I felt a bit freakish and suffered for years in silence with appalling nice sweats and mood swings.
So don’t suffer in silence is my advice, too late for me now but hopefully this might encourage people reading this to not be fobbed off and insist on treatment

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 18:29

Yy not suffering in silence, at least now it’s started to being talked about more openly, it can be so debilitating the tiredness also is a nightmare & the foggy brain.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 18:29

night not nice sweats Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 20/10/2018 18:32

Hello @soyo. I like the culottes. Think they are a nice colour. Think they look better with something tucked in or a shortish top also with a more dainty shoe? The top looks nice. Maybe better if It were neater and I really like the raglan on you. Anway, I see you have returned it all except the raglan. I do love hush star jumpers and not old hat at all. I think they always look good with plain trousers or with jeans for a more casual look.
Well I have been perimenopausal since I was 47. I suffer from the night sweats @melen as well as the day sweats and sometimes so much so they wake me up. I need to look at something that I can take for the hot flushes as I just cant go on feeling this way Its so uncomfortable. I hear that Evening Primrose Oil can help. I just don't fancy HRT. That must have been hard for you @Soyo. I had my last baby when I was 43 but had a very early mc before that [at 6wks] but I was still devastated by it despite the fact it was early on.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 18:34

Yes melen look after yourself sounds like you really suffer with it.
There was an excellent series of chats in Radio 4 Woman’s Hour last summer worth downloading as podcasts for anyone suffering, it really opened my eyes to all the treatments that are available (and was never offered) so do yourselves a favour and insist on HRT and don’t suffer in silence. Some of the treatments now are super low hormone dosage so carry a lot less risk of breast cancer and a lot of benefits including safeguarding your bones

neveradullmoment99 · 20/10/2018 18:35

..and oh dear..yy to the foggy brain. My memory isn't what it used to be.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 18:38

Yes never do look into it, seriously if you’re suffering a very low hormone HRT dose may just be the relief you’re after 👍
Tbh I hardly ever get night hot flashes now, they’re very mild if I do but I remember for years in my forties waking up absolutely drenched in sweat and having to get up and drink gallons of water to cool down 😫 the only saving grace is that I’m a sound sleeper so can drop off again even after such awful nighttime sweats (after cooling off)

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 18:53

never I use a cooling spray from Superdrug, which is very handy gives a bit of instant relief also heard black cohosh & sage is meant to be very good.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 19:17

melen I remember trying black cohosh and sage for around 6 months when my symptoms were particularly bad and for me it made no difference at all but worth a try. I think diet is very important, plenty of veg/lentils and soja did make a difference with me (I’m not vegan but basically a vegan type diet 80% of the time reduces the night sweats, but also take care to include plenty of calcium for your bones)

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 19:21

Soy must admit it didn’t do much for me, but a friend tried it & she found it really helpful, tbh I think HRT is probably the way to go & as you said the treatments have come a long way over the last few years.
Yy diet I think is definitely underestimated.

SoyYo · 20/10/2018 19:57

never forgot to add sorry about you mc, i know how that feels too even in early pg it’s truly devastating.
I’m just glad I didn’t leave it too long to have our DC, in my generation I was almost considered too old to have my first pregnancy at 29 which is totally average and even a bit young these days. My very first pregnancy was at 26 but it was ectopic and lost a Fallopian tube...What with that and menopause at 40 I feel totally blessed to have my two DS!!
And you are amazing to have six!! I salute you! Flowers
Anyway no need to reply girls I’m on my own that’s why I’m posting. DH left on his HD bike for a weekend with the lads that had been planned for a while so I think I’m off to watch something historical which I love but he finds incredibly tedious so will binge on history TV tonight Grin

Ellapaella · 20/10/2018 20:11

Alas - Menopausal misery. I'm not menopausal yet but like you cherries my problems started after I finished BF my 3rd child (he's now 3 and I was 36 then).
Dry eyes, migraines, night sweats (these are terrible, I have them almost every night) burning down below.. all sorts of delights. Been going on 3 years now and my periods are all over the place.
I cannot get a GP to take me seriously, they just say there's nothing they can do as I'm still having periods.
I can't help but think if men had to go through this there'd be a lot more help out there..
I'm a cardiac nurse specialist by trade, I manage a nurse led heart rhythm abnormality clinic (arrhythmia). The number of women I see every week who are having palpitations secondary to the menopause is immense. None of them need to actually see me but their GP's have failed to recognise that palpitations are a part of menopause and so refer them on. I'm becoming a bit of an expert by proxy at menopausal symptoms.

Anyway.. I digress..
SoYo I like all your buys. As usual you look lovely in all of them. I like the flouncy top and was debating it last week in the sale but didn't go for it (I'm keeping my halo very well polished these days).

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 20:38

Ella you have my sympathy, it’s just so bloody hard trying to get taken seriously sometimes, yy the palpitations not being recognised as a symptom, I have dilated cardiomyopathy so the added palpitations that I have at the moment are making life a tad difficult.
never apologies didn’t read your thread properly 💐

dontcallmelen · 20/10/2018 20:49

post not thread.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/10/2018 20:55

Ive had palpitations all of my life. Now I have hit perimenopause, I don't get them as much!!!! I hate them. I have often worried about them but they are a part of me. Noone has ever said I have any issues with my heart all the way through pregnancy. I get them mostly when I am stressed. I hate the feeling.
