Half sizes in shoes

So I'm a size 4.5 in shoes and have a nightmare getting shoes that fit me. In shops that don't sell half sizes a 5 is too big and a 4 too small. Any other half size wearers out there - what do you do? I am
Limited to shopping in M&S. Which other shops are your go to shops for shoes. I need to get some shoes for work as fed up of wearing the same ones over and over again.

Following, I’m the exact same size and my work shoes are normally m&s. I find that it can sometimes be pot luck with others and try 4 and 5. I’ve just bought a pair from dune which are a size 4, they were a little tight but have softened up now.

Next and Clarks do half sizes too. I'm 6.5 which is Euro 40 though so maybe that helps. I can also buy in Deichmann. Try European sizes there?

oohyoudevilyou · 04/10/2018 08:55

I'm a 5.5 and on the wide side. Best brands for me are:
Clarks
M&S
Next
Hotter (I know...)
Van Dal (bit old-ladyish, but I've had some lovely courts from there)

Unfortuantely I'm often swayed by trendier and cheaper styles from somewhere like New Look, so have to size up to a 6. It CAN work with sandals and sometimes boots, but courts and ballerinas are always a disaster.

I find i’m a different size in different manufacturers and styles. I can be anywhere between a 7.5 and a 9. Don’t be too swayed by the number stamped on the shoe, and use insoles to bring the size down a bit, you can often “loose” half a size with insoles. This advice from DH who used to be an independent boot and shoe fitter.

3.5 here - shoes are a nightmare - really difficult to get a pair that fit comfortably.

eaglefly · 04/10/2018 14:16

Thanks for al the suggestions and sympathies. I think only way for me to do this is to traipse around the shops trying shoes on from different shops and invest in a multi pack of insoles. I had been hoping to be able to order online. Will take a look at all the recommendations. Thank you.

Next don't do a 4.5. They do a 3.5 and a 6.5, but not in between. No idea why.

moredoll · 04/10/2018 14:57

Exactly the same size as you. I buy a 5 and use insoles. I have stuffed the toes of boots with cotton wool.(okay-ish) but I wish there more 4.5s out there.

I'm 5.5 E and have no problem at all getting shoes. I go online and there is a big selection at M&S and Clarkes and also Fashion World. Fashionworld's 6 E is ok as they come up small. Also Skechers shoes and boots are usually large so I can get into a 5 there.
I've bought 6 pairs of really nice shoes this year.
