Is it important to use foundation to match your skin tone exactly?

I always fancy going a shade darker but every time I mention it to the beauty assistants they say it needs to be the shade to match my skin exactly or it wouldn't look right.

All I can say is, I always notice women whose foundation is too dark. IMO it is not a good look. In the worst cases it just looks grubby.

If you want to look a bit more tanned or whatever, then use the correct foundation and get a good bronzer.

No don't it ends up patchy because bits get rubbed off through the day. Stick so.e fake tan on if you want to go a shade or 2 darker.

If you get a good beauty blender and make sure to do the neck too (mabey a tan on body) it can work. If you look at most celeb make up tutorials they normally go a bit darker to give a healthy glow.

I always go lighter rather than darker then use a bronzer to add colour. I always think you can add colour but can't take it away

My skin is difficult to match (different colour to my neck) so the choice is often to go slightly darker or lighter. If I go lighter, I always get asked if I'm feeling okay. Slightly darker and I get told I "look well".
