Leather biker jacket

My trusty fake leather biker jacket from miss Selfridge has given up finally! I want to get a real leather one this time but am not having much luck. I bought one from T K maxx, a barneys I've which looked lovely online but it just didn't fit well around the shoulders and arms so I sent it back. I have fallen in love with a reiss one but it's around £375 which is too expensive. I wanted to spend £150 max. Any suggestions wise stylish people?

Zara?

evilharpy · 02/10/2018 16:43

That Reiss one is lovely. Sell a child to pay for it? Grin

Evilharpy - now there's an idea! I keep trying to justify it . It won't come down in the sale, will it?!

I haven't tried Zara yet . I think I'd need to try on? I'm a size 10, would I be medium in Zara?

River Island have a couple, like this one.

Re Zara, I have a faux leather one from there that’s a 10, and I’m generally a 12 in coats or jackets. But I also have a trench that I think is a 14. I’d say try it on.

MsHomeSlice · 02/10/2018 16:51

what about the barneys one in a smaller size?...it's heavy on the sleeves but might be neater in a size down.

I think mine could be a big bigger...but it fits just like the reiss one in your picture....short, almost croppy, long arms, but ending at the wrist, looks like it might not zip

chorusline79 · 02/10/2018 16:51

Ooohh, thanks for that. I really like the look of that river island one, it looks like a nice shape. And funnily enough v similar to my trusty Miss S one.

I’ve just looked at one from Hobbs but it’s too long and manages to be a bit frumpy which is odd as I love Hobbs.

This is more fun than the work I’m meant to be doing.

evilharpy · 02/10/2018 16:55

bargain bargain bargain

Tempted to order that one for myself! (except am poor this month.)

MsHomeSlice · 02/10/2018 17:05

liking the bargain barneys/asos one! Do it, am sure that is the one for you!

Sooo much cheaper than the reiss one too....a veritable saving !

chorusline79 · 02/10/2018 17:05

Ms home slice - I agree with you, biker jackets should be tight fitting and almost a bit short on the sleeves. I guess I could try the one I had in a size 8 but i just presumed it would be too small but may be worth a try as it was really lovely soft leather. The only other issue I had with it was the shoulder bits as I felt they made my shoulders look a bit big? I have given this far too much thought!

Evilharpy - that one you have linked to I almost bought the other day as it's such a bargain as you say but the only thing I was not sure about is the ruffly bits on the arms . I wasn't sure if it would make my arms look big but I am so tempted too. Are ASOS good with returns? I'm so rubbish with returning stuff. Thanks for helping and sorry for distracting you from your work!

OP posts:
chorusline79 · 02/10/2018 17:07

Perhaps I will just go for the ASOS/barneys one and see then....😁

evilharpy · 02/10/2018 17:10

Don’t apologise, I’d much rather be shopping than working!

I don’t know about asos returns I’m afraid, I’ve never returned anything.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 02/10/2018 17:12

Oasis have a good few - mine is now 5 years old and still looks great. They've got 20% off with code EXTRA20, which brings them into your

dontcallmelen · 02/10/2018 17:18

Reins usually have a good sale, I have one which was reduced by quite a bit, not sure when the sale is though.
Mango always do good biker jackets, sainsburys do a good one for £100.00 I think the 25% off will be happening again soon.

evilharpy · 02/10/2018 18:19

Chorusline how did you find the Barney's sizing on the one you bought? I think I'm going to buy that one from Asos.

chorusline79 · 02/10/2018 18:53

Oh brilliant, I'm thinking I might get it too! I bought a size 10 and it was definitely on the roomy side. The sleeves were too long and there was quite a lot of room in it in the body and shoulders. Not sure if that's the style of that particular jacket though. I'm only 5ft 4 so quite short which was maybe why sleeves too long.
I'm usually a 10, sometimes an 8 but i was expecting the sizing to be small.

evilharpy · 02/10/2018 19:03

Thanks - I shall report back! I'm a 12 and have ordered the 12, I was also thinking it might come up small but if so you can usually break in a leather jacket and loosen it up a bit.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 02/10/2018 19:06

My Mango one is amazing quality. Paid 120 euros for it in Germany

chorusline79 · 02/10/2018 19:09

Yes please do report back evilharpy as I must wait til I have been paid! And would be great to see how you like it. Definitely agree that leather will sort of stretch out a bit and it will look better a bit on the tighter side than too big. Fingers crossed it's a good un!

I love my my Oasis one

That Reiss one is gorgeous, have you looked on eBay? There are often good Reiss bargains on there.

chorusline79 · 02/10/2018 19:32

Will definitely check out oasis and mango too, thanks for those recommendations

I have had a look on eBay, but I'm just unsure about sizing so it's a bit of a risk. I was looking at a nice whistles one on eBay - does anyone know about Whistles sizing?

I’ve just bought a beautiful one from whiskies
