How do you style a stripe dress?

I bought this dress the other week thinking it would look great with a yellow check scarf and brown ankle boots. How wrong I was! I looked bloody ridiculous.

How to make this look nice in Autumn? I love big chunky knit scarves. Ideas for Autumn looks greatly appreciated anyway!

Why did you look ridiculous? Sounds good. Do you mean it was too stereotypical or cliched a look?

Your outfit sounds good to me! I'd wear with tights and boots probably.

I don't know, I looked in the mirror and felt silly. It's too long for jeans, nearly knee length. I might get some thick knitted navy tights and dark tan brogues.

I wear mine in spring/summer with bare legs and either sandals or trainers. I'd never wear it in winter, don't know why it's just never seemed like a tights and "proper" shoes or boots dress to me.

What you've put together sounds good so it might just be it looks a bit different to what you are used to. Alternatively what did you have on your legs when you styled it with the boots and scarf? That might be the issue. I'm short and would be tempted to style with navy tights and shoes/boots plus a slouchy navy jumper (plus your scarf which sounds perfect). If you are tall then brown shoes or boots plus navy tights sounds good so just be brave!

I have one not dissimilar. I wear it with tan knee length boots.

I have that in a different colour and just wore it with opaques and chunky heeled boots

I wear the burgundy version with black tights, sparkly silver converse boots and a bright blue scarf. I'm 39 btw not a student even tho I dress like one!
If I were to wear to work then flat black shoes for the converse and everything else stays the same.
