Foundation

I'm looking to try a new foundation and would like some recommendations please. I'm early 30s and have started to get quite bad hormonal acne on my chin and cheeks recently, other than that I would say my skin is 'normal' on the whole. i.e. not too dry/not too oily.

I just want a nice foundation with a natural finish. Not a fan of overly matte or dewy... Any ideas lovely ladies? Which foundations do you use and love?

Thanks in advance!

I like the new Clarins serum foundation and also ise NarsSheer glow.
Both are light to medium coverage and are quite hydrating.

The best thing really is to go to a department store like Debenhams or John Lewis, or boots, and get them to apply it properly and get the right colour for you. I find getting the colour perfect really improves the overall look of my skin, far more so than finish.
I get hormonal acne too, and also have mild rosacea so I really need a decent coverage but I hate the feeling of some of them on my skin. It’s also the one make up product I’m prepared to spend a bit more money on. My current one is Estée Lauder, I think it was about £30. It lasts for ages, I use a primer first, and it isn’t chalky or heavy.

My all-time favourite is the Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation - I go for the full coverage one but you can also get a "light" versions. Lots of shades in the full coverage, less so for the light. You will get a sample bottle which lasts for around 10 days so you can try before you buy, which is always good, as it's quite expensive to buy and then decide it's not right for you! I always end up going back to EL DW. Currently I'm using Kat Von D foundation but again, its quite heavy coverage - I do love it, and it's giving EL a good run for it's money!! It's a minefield! Another foundation I loved was the Bare Minerals one - they do a powder foundation and also a liquid one. I've used both, loved them both - they both give a lovely finish, but they just didn't have the "staying power" for me - tended to rub off if you touch your face.

I always read reviews on the Boots, Debenhams or John Lewis websites but I'd recommend going in to the store and having a chat with the various makeup counters. Good luck!!

Thanks so much for all your replies. I'm going to get myself to John Lewis and get some samples. Sounds like the Estee Lauder one is highly recommended.

Another question.. Do you apply with a brush? Or one of those sponge things??
