Well, that’s it then. Celine is officially over.

Spring 19 Show here.

Now completely indisinguishable from Saint Laurent. I’d been hoping, irrationally I know, that it would just be Philo-light from now on.

(I know it doesn’t matter ...)

I thought it was awful too, like the sale rail in Topshop. Such a shame

NuffingChora · 28/09/2018 22:31

They’ve absolutely fucked it. Bags are hideous too. Bring back Philo!!

Lucked · 28/09/2018 22:47

God awful.

I think you are being hard on Saint Laurent though, the best of this is like the worst at SL

QuaterMiss · 28/09/2018 23:03

You may be right Lucked. I was too disappointed to look very hard.

I don’t understand it. Admittedly I know nothing about Celine’s relative financial position - but surely it can’t have been doing so badly that the owners needed a complete change of direction. It used to be so distinct ... I can’t imagine that anyone who bought, or even just appreciated the last few years would want to wear any of this.

And, fwiw I could always find something cute and fun to wear in the sale rail at TopShop - if I cared to look. Even with a (wholly imaginary) totally unlimited budget I’m never going to want to wear anything by Hedi Slimane.

queenofarles · 28/09/2018 23:15

all the that hype and the result was a complete let down, Hedi is very arrogant it. was never going look even remotely similar to the old celine but atleast it didn't have to look so similar to SL, the feathers, exaggerated sgoulders are all recycled work.
The bag looks like a cheap Chanel knockoff.

QuaterMiss · 29/09/2018 07:44

Have taken another look.

So, so depressing that a label previously geared towards the desires and aspirations of grown up women (even if 99% could never buy the things) is now (now !) to be directed towards men and an exaggerated, male centred version of teen ‘femininity’.

Pfft!

MeltingSnowflake · 29/09/2018 07:52

Honestly, it looks like H&M. And HOW thin are the models?? Confused

StylishMummy · 29/09/2018 08:57

This is the same way Mulberry have gone, awful loss of classic and simple designs in well crafted leather. Now hideous, overpriced and poor quality.

Chanel don't change their main designs as they know they're a winner. Same with LV.

Mulberry and Celine have both lost the essence of their roots

TruffleShuffles · 29/09/2018 09:11

It was as awful as I expected. Hedi Slimane is such a one trick pony. The bags released previous to the show were also embarrassingly based on the classic Chanel flap so I didn’t expect anything original. The sad thing is this will sell like his SLP did.

I hated what he did at YSL including the name change, he is taking classic brands for sophisticated women and turning them into the go to houses for the rich kids of Instagram to spend their daddies money on.

silkpyjamasallday · 29/09/2018 09:24

Hedi is just wrong for celine, it's a baffling decision by the owners to appoint him of all people. Celine stood out and was celebrated for being clothes that women wanted to wear, unobstructed by the male gaze. Anyone know where Philo is going? Surely she could do her own name label now? Fingers crossed!

queenofarles · 29/09/2018 17:15

today In Paris many wore thier finest pheobe philo To honor and celebrate Her designs . They all look incredible. LVMH should take this stylish protest into consideration .
I wish there is something similar going on in London.

Lucked · 29/09/2018 17:20

I am loving the style protest, only in Paris!

QuaterMiss · 29/09/2018 17:27

Noticed one or two sorrowful references to PP on Instagram this morning! (But didn’t have time to linger over them.)

It seems like an entire client base just thrown away - but I guess people who regularly shopped at OldCeline already know where she/they will be going next.

OP posts:
queenofarles · 29/09/2018 18:36

This actually made me a bit teary, they look gorgeous.

One of the reasons I loved buying from céline was how effortless the clothes looked , I don't need smart or formal clothes in my everyday life,I don't work and I have school age dcs, but also I didn't want to live in jeans all the time, wearing a simple céline jumper and trousers always made me feel good.

I don't think PP will start her label any time soon.

Well, that’s it then. Celine is officially over.
Mercurial123 · 30/09/2018 06:42

Diet Prada on Instagram has done an interesting review on this.

QuaterMiss · 30/09/2018 07:01

We were hopeful and prepared to be surprised, but ...

Thanks Mercurial - it is an interesting read!

queenofarles I’m curious to know where you think you might be shopping in future. (Assuming you’re not of the ‘I have enough clothes to last a lifetime’ tribe?)

OP posts:
LostInShoebiz · 30/09/2018 08:00

Hideous.

NigellasGuest · 30/09/2018 08:11

Agree with pp - it's like H&M!

Floisme · 30/09/2018 09:03

That was grim. And it’ll be grim on the high street too when it starts to trickle down.

The contrast between between the women’s outfits and the male models in their simple, slim cut suits tells me everything I need to know about Hedi Slimane.

I have this fantasy that Philo will join M&S Grin

QuaterMiss · 30/09/2018 09:23

Do you Floisme? Grin

Nah ... I’d like her still to be working at the limits of what’s possible with fabric and craftsmanship.

Now, where was it that I read a comment linking her with Chanel? That would be equally frustrating (for me). I love tweed but find the Chanel aesthetic wholly irrelevant to my wardrobe aspirations.

OP posts:
Floisme · 30/09/2018 10:31

Ah but constraints can be great for creativity. And I think she's ready for a new challenge Wink

Come on Phoebe, wouldn't you like to be a national treasure?

queenofarles · 30/09/2018 16:43

Oh yes PP for Chanel would be a fantasy come true for me Grin.maybe it's a done deal and its all very hush hush till Karl steps down. It's in great need of a major revamp

QuaterMiss I'm loving Altuzarra right now a brand I've admired for sometime.great shoes too!
there are some great brands out there.

It's pointless to look for a replacement I think, PP is irreplaceable and it's best to keep it that way .
