WTF????! Split hair in the middle not ends?!

OK so i havent had a trim in +6 months.

Tried taking pics but its just too bitty to capture.

Basically upon examining my hair I can see a have split ends (standard). But about 3 or 4 inches up from the ends, so i guess a little more than 2/3 down the lengths, I also have what look like split ends! Like normal hair, this weird split end looking juncture, and then 3 more inches of normal looking hair. What the hell? So if I brush too hard or pull at one of the strands, the last 3 inches break off, at the weird split end juncture thing. What does this mean?!

Do you put your hair in a pony or a bun? Could it be at the point where you are tucking hair into a band of some sort?

It means your hair started to split farther (earlier) up your hair than you thought.

My hairdresser pointed this out to me. It's ear and tear where I was putting it in a pony tail - mostly when wet - the running after the children.

I now use a bulldog clip when it's wet and I haven't time to dry it immediately.

I agree it sounds like damage from bands/ties and probably only cutting it above that point will rectify it. Or if you straighten the ends could that be the point where you regularly clamp the plates so it’s getting the most of the heat? Hopefully a hair dresser will come on to give a professional opinion.

I agree with others about the cause. You might find a keratin / Brazilian blow dry would give you a temporary fix for a few months if you didn’t want to cut to that length.

I used to have this years ago - it looked like a tiny knot in my hair but was atually a split end / break not at the end!! Some of the hair broke off but it stopped after a while

(Mine wasn't caused by tying hair back as I wasn't then tying hair back)
