Should I bleach hair

I've always had the same hairstyle I'm 35 and getting a (radical for me) cut on Saturday, I've also seen a colour I like which is smokey gray highlights the hairdresser says she would need to bleach my hair to put them in, it's going to be £85.
I've never done any colour on my hair and only have the odd natural grey now, given that I don't like to spend a great deal of money or time on my hair am I setting myself up for too much upkeep?
Thanks

What is your natural colour? How close to your natural colour are the highlights? Is the stylist toning with a quasi or permanent colour?

My mum has highlights on her ginger (level 7/8 hair) which need re-doing every 2-3 months or so to keep them looking decent. DD has a whole head bleach on her dark blonde (level 7 hair) and gets roots after 2 weeks. It basically depends how close to your natural colour the highlights would be and how many you have as to how long you can go between services without it looking a mess. Also, quasi colours last longer on bleached hair than permanent ones, so get your hairdresser to tone with a quasi if she can.

This is what I'd like, my hair is dark brown. Not sure what toner but they've done a skin test with permanent colour?

I'd say you'd get regrowth within 2-3 weeks with that. How long you can live with it, is down to personal choice.

If you're worried about upkeep try a smudge root look with a dark root blending down to the grey colour. The skin test is to test for a reaction to PPD. It doesn't mean they need to use a permanent colour on your hair.
