Northface arctic parka or zaneck parka?

I notice that the zaneck is about #100 cheaper. Does this mean it's not as warm?

Too early I guess! It's still too warm.

The artic jacket is filled with goose down so I would guess it would be the warmer of the two. The other jacket has synthetic insulation. The artic jacket has also got a thicker outer, the plain one has a polycotton outer.

Have you looked at other brands as you might get a much better jacket for less. I can really recommend Lands End. Their down jackets keep me warm watching Rugby in the middle of winter. I had a synthetic jacket last year and it was just not as effective.

Thanks. The lands End puffer jackets look the same as any other puffer jacket but their parkas look a bit........ bulky?

What about helly hansen? are their parkas anywhere near as warm?

I have the Northface parka and it's a brilliant coat.

It was expensive (about £200 from Amazon) but worth every penny. I've had it for three years, worn most days in late autumn, through winter and into spring, and still looks brand new. I don't expect to buy another new winter coat any time soon, so it was a really worthwhile investment.

Which one Almondio, the arctic parka? I had the north face metropolis puffa parka, and it didn't wear out, it got too small [fat grin] so I am giving that one to my daughter as it's a size small. It's not even that I've got that much fatter, it was ALWAYS a bit tight but v v warm. A north face small is genuinely small. IMO That's my one comment on their sizing. A lands End small is bigger.

The zaneck is crap don’t get it

I have an Arctic parka, 7 years and still going strong, though admittedly it isn't as waterproof now it's been washed a number of times, even in special proofing liquid. 270 quid but not bad over the 10 or so years I reckon it'll last.

TuathaDeDanann · 25/09/2018 22:32

Really @worieddd is it not as warm? in what way is it crap? I am suspicious because it's 2/3rds price of the arctic parka and I am thinking there must be a reason for that.

I was just about to come on and say get a metropolis parka! I absolutely adore mine, you could maybe get a bigger one for a bit cheaper as I think they're a bit 'last season' now?

Mine is literally my most favourite thing I own, just going into its 4th winter and it makes me smile every time I put it on, just started this week!

Oly5 · 25/09/2018 23:26

I have the arctic parka and love it. It’s about to do its fifth winter

OnlyTheDepthVaries · 26/09/2018 06:23

I have a Northface artic parka. Fantastic coat but I don't wear it often as I find it too warm for dog walking. Absolutely ideal though if you are standing around in the cold ....watching endless football and rugby games involving your offspring.

Worieddd · 26/09/2018 08:07

Hi OP I bought the Zaneck last year it’s pretty thin and flimsy, the filling is a thin synthetic even the logo wasn’t embroidered! I sent it back it’s more of an autumn/spring jacket than winter.

Have had the Arctic parka in the past and that’s a proper thick down coat and it is waterproof too and longer.

TuathaDeDanann · 26/09/2018 18:52

Thanks for telling me that @worrieddd as they dont really spell it out that it's not as warm.

Yes another vote for the arctic parka. Perfect for those cheery winter weekends spent on a touchline!

Almondio · 28/09/2018 11:41

Tuatha yes the Arctic parka, I find it very warm (but I do generally heat up pretty quickly) and I like the length and the hood is fantastic in the cold and rain. It's just super snug!
