Trousers for larger children

sorry, not entirely sure where to put this. [and the weird enter thing means it will be all one paragraph]. DS is 7 and very tall for his age. He's also got relatively short legs compared to his body. And.... he is a stocky child. He's also a bit overweight (which we're working on) . Buying trousers is a NIGHTMARE. School trousers we've found buying plus size trousers for a few years older works, we just get the legs shortened. But for other trousers, including trackies, it's much harder. When he was little he lived in those H&M trousers that could be turned into 3/4 length trousers, but in the 3/4 length they'd be fine for him. Can anyone recommend where to get trousers that might work? I don't mind taking them up, but often the style makes that difficult. Also, if we go too many sizes up they're obviously way to big around his hips and upper thighs. Oh.... and he's got some sensory issues so they need to be soft!

Op I find matalan and tesco more generous/ elasticated. For the first time ever I bought skinny jeans for my son in matalan. I was gobsmacked and he looks great in them and they are super soft not like real jean fabric iykwim. Sleepismysuperpower, that's really useful thank you! My ds is built like a rugby player, not fat but built. Also longer in the body than legs. Proper solid :-)
