Make up overhaul - what can't you live without?

I've been using the same products with the same results for far too long. I need a makeup shake up, but don't really know where to start. I thought it would be interesting to see what products people really rate.

I have 2 kits, one for my handbag and one for home. They both contain my must haves. Which are, Gabriel lipstick by Chanel, a mini mascara from Clinique, tinted moisturiser, lip balm, a concealer pen, eyebrow perfecter, mini hair spray and nude/red polish and a nail corrector pen.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 24/09/2018 18:25

I really love the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation as I have oily skin and it lasts all day. I am able to sheer it out enough to look great but not mask-like.

DaisyDando · 24/09/2018 18:28

I’ve flirted with a million foundations, and always return to Clinique. Like it even more than Chanel. I seem to remember loving a Lancôme one when I was 19. But I had 19 year old skin then, so that was why.

sunshineandshowers21 · 24/09/2018 18:41

i tend to splurge on foundation, concealer, powder, and bronzer/blusher but then buy cheaper eyeshadows and lipsticks so that i switch up my look without spending a fortune. make up revolution is ace for eyeshadow palettes and i love nyx glosses. primark is also good for lipsticks.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 24/09/2018 18:42

Ooops, posted too soon!

I also really love Laura Mercier's Translucent setting powder - it just works. My mum who is in her 60's love it too.
The Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge blushers are great too - I never thought I'd like a cream blusher much, but I really do. It is quite easy to apply and looks very natural.
The Becca highlighters are great too - I prefer the liquid and creams over powders as I think they look better and more natural on my skin, but that's a matter of preference, I think.
Applying foundation and cream/liquid products like blusher and highlighter with a damp beauty sponge also is something I really love.

JeSuisPrest · 24/09/2018 18:45

Fstar · 24/09/2018 18:48

Too faced peaches and cream primer and foundation, no7 mascara

Love51 · 24/09/2018 20:29

fluffypinkcloud (or anyone who knows) what is an eyebrow perfector? And how do you use it?

MistyMinge · 24/09/2018 20:34

I'm a real lover of Estee Lauder double wear foundation too, but I've seen it slated quite a bit on here. My skin is much better now compared to when I first started it. I'm wondering if I should try a new one. I follow Sali Hughes on Insta and think she always looks really lovely, but she has a huge horde of make up. I want to get 3 or 4 new make up bag staples. This is interesting. Keep them coming!

Also I currently do jack shit with my eyebrows, unless you count a clear gel wand. They're a bit on the thin side (teenager in the 90s),but I haven't a clue what to do when it comes to brow makeup. What's idiot proof and not too obvious? I just want to define and make them look thicker, but not the full on HD style brow.

Best for mature skin. I'm 42 but people say I look 30. I use Hyrulonic Acid Essence to plump skin and hydrate. Then SPF 30+ Primer like Etude house Face Blur to smoothen skin and make my makeup last. Colour corrector for eye bags by NYX or Benefit and Eye Concealer by NYX (the best liquid coverage I have ever used). I put huge emphasis on an even and brightening skin tone, reducing wrinkles etc before any other makeup.

CookieDoughKid · 24/09/2018 20:51

I tend to use Korean products due to emphasis on skin care. I also wear a sheet mask at night for 15mins at least twice a week which I swear has made a massive difference.

FluffyPinkCloud · 24/09/2018 21:35

@Love51 It’s a clear gel kind of like hair spray for eyebrows. You just put it on using the wand. Also, you can thicken your brows by shading with an eyeliner n dark brown, or use a powder to make them look thicker.

Angbunnyboo · 24/09/2018 21:36

Nars The Multiple in South Beach - it gives a lovely blush to cheeks. Clinique mascara, always come back to it, I'm currently using the chubby lashes one. Body Shop all in one face base - tried loads of foundations but always Coe back to this one, can't live without it.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 24/09/2018 21:54

Recently I’ve started using Chanel le volume mascara which I love. I don’t tend to use a lot of make up, never foundation and rarely concealer but am never without my Guerlain bronzer and MAC lipstick/gloss. Keen to try Huda eyeshadows as I hear they are great quality and very pigmented, currently used the naked palettes and MAC eyeshadows (if going on a night out)

Olive122 · 25/09/2018 08:34

I love Benefit Gimme Brow, it contains little fibres to thicken your brows and has a tiny mascara like applicator. It’s so quick and easy to use and really enhances your brows (mine are thin and sparse), making them look really natural and not fake looking at all.

violetbunny · 25/09/2018 08:43

Total makeup junkie here. I have more products than I care to admit Blush

My most often used products include:

  • Charlotte Tilbury compact face powder
  • Hourglass Ambient lighting powders & blushes
  • Hourglass Veil mineral primer
  • Ellis Faas and Armani Maestro foundations
  • MAC Prep & Prime lip primer
  • Chanel waterproof eyeliner pencils
  • Hourglass Arch brow pencil
  • Chantecaille stylo concealer
ileclerc · 25/09/2018 08:59

Another bite for benefit gimme brow. My eyebrows are totally blond, it's dead easy to use and doesn't make me look totally ridiculous. I instantly look more 'done' with it.

ileclerc · 25/09/2018 09:00

Vote!

QueenOfMyWorld · 25/09/2018 09:12

Rimmel 25hr foundation, rimmel scandeleyes waterproof eyeliner and Chanel bronzing base, lasts years blends flawlessly

Iooselipssinkships · 25/09/2018 10:33

For eyebrows, Anastasia Beverly Hills brow dip pot. Around £15 and is my HG of eyebrow products. Lasts all day and goes on like a dream, few different shades to choose from. I'm a silver blonde and use Taupe. Cannot recommend it enough!

Bloomcounty · 25/09/2018 16:21

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner and Clinique lash power mascara

Those are my only two "splurge" items, and I'm ridiculously loyal to them, because they work for my sensitive eyes. The mascara is a tubing one, so washes off with a wee soak in warm water. I used to spend days with sore, streaming eyes till I tried it. Now I live in fear of it being discontinued.

Cheesymonster · 25/09/2018 18:18

Max factor powder foundation
L'Oréal concealer (the pen one like touche eclat)
Benefit goof proof brow pencil
Essence brow fibre mascara (exactly the same as benefit gimme brow)
Eyelash curlers
L'Oréal lash paradise mascara

I wear all of the above everyday. I am still searching for a lipstick and blusher that doesn't make me feel clown like. At the moment I use tinted lip balm and have ditched the blusher altogether but I look v pale!!

mononoaware1907 · 27/09/2018 05:14

Urban Decay naked foundation (not the all nighter!), Guerlain mascara in black, nyx micro brow pencil (cheap & lovely!), MAC blusher in gingerly ❤️
