Comfortable tights for the tall and fat?

MintyChops · 23/09/2018 12:00

Does anyone have any suggestions please? I am 5’10” and a size 18/20 and I really struggle to find tights that fit. If they are long enough they cut in at the waist; if they are comfortable at the waist they are so short I end up sticking a toe through. Grrrr.

Added to this I had to have an ileostomy in the summer so I now have an ostomy bag which complicates the waistband situation. I heard a rumour about H&M doing comfort-waist tights but haven been able to find them. Any suggestions please?

Heist tights. They're crazy expensive but I've never felt so great in a pair of tights. A deep high waistband so not sure how that would be for you but its very soft too.

CaptainCallisto · 23/09/2018 12:06

I'm the same height/weight as you and have some from Long Tall Sally which are great

delilabell · 23/09/2018 12:07

I'd say snag which are supposed to be amazing but I've been waiting over 5 weeks for mine 😩

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 23/09/2018 12:09

I’m the same height/size as you and have Next XL/Long tights. They don’t do them in all deniers, so you’ll have to look, but they’re fab, and super comfy.

wickedfairy · 23/09/2018 21:58

I have 34" legs but am a little smaller in clothes than yourself. I find Primark tights the best - I get the 100 denier, as I prefer thick tights.

Long legs, comfy waistband and they are very cheap too. They wash well and last ages. Good luck!

MintyChops · 23/09/2018 23:05

Thank you all very much, I am going to work my way through all your suggestions and hopefully have a comfortable and cosy autumn/winter!

I've got several pairs of Snag tights... A bit more roomy than my usual tights, but they stay up, are very comfy and have a nice thick waistband.

Ollivander84 · 23/09/2018 23:12

Snag, mega comfy and roomy

Ollivander84 · 23/09/2018 23:14

Oh and I'm 5ft 10, 14/16 and got a size up. They had loads of tummy room but cleverly didn't slide down at all!
Checked the sizing, I wear E but F is the bigger size and I can wear that too
I would get a G and that should be perfect for you. I don't work for them but to find tights that were big enough and long enough was such a novelty!

sourpatchkid · 23/09/2018 23:14

@delilabell I'd contact them as I suspect your order got lost, I ordered mine last week and got them within 3 days

OP I'm the same height but 20/20 and snag are very comfy. Quite a thick seam up the belly for some reason though so not great with silky or tight fitted clothes

sourpatchkid · 23/09/2018 23:15

*20/22

L238 · 23/09/2018 23:17

Definitely snag. Heist are good but very expensive and prone to laddering due to the way they’re constructed.
Had my snags for a few weeks and love them. I’m a pear shape with a small waist compared to hips so usually struggle with getting a good fit

TwoGinScentedTears · 23/09/2018 23:28

I've just ordered myself some Snag tights thanks to this thread!

IWasADrabLittleCrabOnce · 24/09/2018 00:15

I’m also tall (6ft) and fat (size 18) and I too have an ostomy bag. I’ve never yet found a pair of tights that I can comfortably wear. I tend to either wear a pair of high waist leggings instead of tights or a high denier hold up.

MrsCatE · 24/09/2018 00:18

Have you tried hold ups? I am small but struggle with tights.

sourpatchkid · 24/09/2018 08:08

@IWasADrabLittleCrabOnce snag will fit you, mine have got loads of room left (they aren't baggy but they'd clearly stretch a lot more)

IWasADrabLittleCrabOnce · 24/09/2018 12:37

How tight across the tummy are these snag tights? I find anything on the snug side causes urm, leakage Blush from my ostomy...

Ollivander84 · 24/09/2018 12:46

IWas - go up a size and I could stretch them about half around me again Grin but they still didn't fall down. Magic I tell you!

sourpatchkid · 24/09/2018 15:56

They're not snug at all, in fact mine feel a bit too loose - they kind of feel a bit saggy but then don't look saggy at all.

And you don't have to do that insane dance while you try and force them on and in place, it's like putting leggings on - easy

delilabell · 24/09/2018 19:49

My snags have arrived and are amazing. Customer services wonderful too

justpoppingby · 24/09/2018 19:56

M& s usually do lovely big comfortable tights. We buy loads and use them in theatre, (show theatre not medical) because they're so comfy, especially for the fellas, :) .
When they do winter ones I get a few for me, I'm 18/20 and I find they fit my large thighs well. I'm 5.5' might be worth a try they're not overly expensive
