I need real help on what to wear.

Most importantly is shoes - I don’t know which ones to buy. In my last office job I wore heels (quite high) and I quickly realised I was the only woman in the office wearing heels and made me a feel a bit OTT.

One woman actually said to me “why do you wear those shoes?”. I was about 24 and she was the same. So I clearly don’t think I got it right.

So I’m asking for your advice for shoes that feel smart but not OTT.

Also any general advice for clothes (skirts/trousers)?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like it's business casual if heels aren't the norm. I wear brogues, loafers and ballet flats (normally pointed). It's hard to advise on clothes without knowing your style - women wear a wide range in business casual offices

I wear
Dresses, more casual ones like skater or wrap dresses with tights and ballet flats. Sometimes chunky knee boots in winter

Skinny trousers with layered tops, and a kimono top or a long cardigan or blazer. With ballet flats or v front low heel ankle boots
In summer I wear palmairas

Attached some pics, they're not great but it's an idea!

I don't understand what went wrong in your last company. There's nothing wrong with high heels with smart casual. It was either that particular pair of shoes - did they look better in a night club, your former colleague just being rude or a workplace where no one wears heels for some strange reason.

If you want to play it safe, a small heel will see you through many work places and clothes styles.
